Using bidet (water( is a good option, but a better way to save trees is to plant more trees and see that they get protection.
From a pure hygiene perpective using water is much cleaner compared to paper, but if your place gets very cold then maybe you will need some warm water means you end up using electricity which may be generated by burning coal .so.... not very environment friendly.

Depending on how active your bowels are, I would saying your might save one or two trees a year, so probably somewhere between 30 and 60 trees. I am curious to what your alternative is going to be though. And what about in public restrooms?

Good idea. Use a white towel on a stick instead. You should save at least one tree over 30 years, but that tree will lose one branch for your new wiper.

it is easier than you think ,get a bidet ,and wash your bum every time you go to the toilet ,
it is much cleaner ,and softer ,and once you do that you will never want paper again ,this is a dirty habit anyway and what about all that sh*tty paper left behind.
people from India have always done this

It could work. In the middle ages, people used strips on linen to wipe themselves.
Then you get the fun of washing them!
