It means He cried. There is such a thing as over-interpretation.

Jesus wept because he felt Martha's pain for her brother Lazarus. He also wept because people had seen so many miracles and yet, he knew that even after he rose Lazarus from the dead, people would still not believe that he was the Messiah.

Cheers!

I think it's just a coincidence thing. "Jesus Wept" isn't any more important than the rest of the Gospel.

Why doesn't anyone ever speak of the LONGEST sentence in the Bible?

My favorite verse. Yes it shows His emotions and lets us know that we are created in His image, which means He has emotion and feelings like us and He can be hurt emotionally as us. He also wept to show us in this life there is sorrow, and He also showed the blessed hope of ressurection

Jesus wept when He found out the Lazarus had died. He knew that He could raise Lazarus from the dead, so why weep? I feel that He wept because He was saddened by the lack of faith the people had. Martha and Mary thought it was to late for Jesus to help Lazarus. If they had faith they would have realized that Jesus could still help Lazarus. Jesus was saddened by their lack of faith in Him.

God bless,
Stanbo

This is actually one of my most favorite verses in scripture. Jesus was crying beause his friend had died. He was in pain, and he had emotions. I have pain, too. Sometimes, I cry. Sometimes, I am angry. Sometimes, my friends betray me. Sometimes, people misunderstand my intentions.

Christ was angry in the temple when they were taking advantage of the poor. Christ was sad when his friend died. Christ was betrayed by one of his closest friends. Christ was misunderstood and even called the Devil.

When I remember this, I go back to that verse. Jesus wept. Jesus felt things too. Everything I feel, Christ has also dealt with, and I can go to him and truly know he understands. Tears soaked his cheeks, too.

It shows that Jesus loved His friend Lazarus that had died.
It shows His kindness and love and respect for life.
He continued His journey till Bethany, where He raised Lazarus from his tomb.
The same way He will do to us one day.
I think that your perception is extraordinaire: love towards a dying friend and disposition to raise him from death and love towards humanity and the same kind of attitude towards it.

Always wondered. Strangely enough, my mother used to say it to me all the time when she was mad at me, and she wasn't even a christian!!!

I think it probably shows his disappointment with humanity.

It shows me that God "feels" and hurts for the hurting, disbelieving and the "dead" among us. Jesus never showed His humanity more than in that verse of two words.

Yes, I think it showed He was compassionate and understood Mary and Martha's pain over losing Lazarus, even though He already knew of the power of resurrection.
