RULES FOR TEACHERS 1872
* Teachers each day will fill lamps, clean chimneys.
* Each teacher will bring a bucket of water and a scuttle of coal for the day's session.
* Make your pens carefully. You may whittle nibs to the individual tastes of the pupil.
* Men teachers may take one evening each week for courting purposes or two evenings a week if they go to church regularly.
* After ten hours in school, the teachers may spend the remaining time reading the Bible or other good books.
* Women teachers who marry or engage in unseemly conduct will be dismissed.
* Every teacher should lay aside from each pay a goodly sum of his earnings for his benefit during his declining years so that he will not become a burden on society.
* Any teacher who smokes, used liquor in any form, frequents pool or public halls or gets shaved in a barbershop will give good reason to suspect his worth, intention, integrity and honesty.
* The teacher who performs his labor faithfully and without fault for five years will be given an increase of twenty-five cents per week in his pay, providing the Board of Education approves.

RULES FOR 1915 SCHOOLTEACHERS

* You are not to keep company with men.
* You must be home between the hours of 8 pm and 6 am unless attending a school function.
* You may not loiter downtown in any of the ice cream stores.
* You may not travel beyond the city limits unless you have the permission of the chairman of the board.
* You may not ride in a carriage or automobile with any man unless he is your father or brother.
* You may not smoke cigarettes.
* You may under no circumstances dye your hair.
* You may not smoke cigarettes.
* You may not dress in bright colors.
* You must wear at least two petticoats.
* Your dresses must not be any shorter than two inches above your ankle.
* To keep the schoolroom neat and clean, you must: scrub the floor at least once a week with hot, soapy water; clean the blackboards at least once a day; and start the fire at 7 am so the room will be warm by 8 am.

It sucked to be a teacher in the 1800's and early 1900's!
They seem a little extreme, to say the least. Nowadays, it would be unheard of for a job to dictate what you do while not at work.
I'm atheist, but what does that have to do with this :)

Ha yes i was definately pissed. To start off it doesn't make sense for Kofi to defend the title, he just won it! Hell, it's not extreme at all. It's EXTREMELY stupid. So they give us that, the no hold barreds, and the hardcore match, and like you said there all the same! Maybe they should just label them Filler Matches or Go Get A Snack Match. Not extreme at all! The Strap match, eh sounds okay, but just kind of lame. The steel cage match will probably end up in all hype. The only extreme match is a ladder match is what it sounds like. And if this is all the extreme we get, they minus well change the name of this ppv too. Don't even get me started on the Hog Pen match! Noone wants to see this, I have no idea why they would do this!! Going to be an extremely unextreme ppv and overhyped. Sounds familiar...... BQ: ALL except main events. Which i'm thinking the steel cage won't be extreme either...

Well - they had to keep an eye on those old skool marms!
Really - they'll probably kill your kids the moment you turn your back because that what happens when you've read books other than the holy bible....
Women librarians and teachers have always been on a tight leash - and in some ways they still are... It just boils down to ignorant people being jealous of intelligence...
Look around - there are ways that this has not changed... Take a good hard look at "No Child Left Behind".
Then take a look at all the books by right-wing extremists about "Evil College Professors". There was a guy who wrote an entire book about why a certain college professor should not be allowed to teach because he had been a member of the SDS.

I probably wouldn't be bothered by how constrictive the rules were, if there weren't a different standard for men and women. That just pisses me off. He can court two nights a week. She will be summarily dismissed if she even considers the idea.
"or gets shaved in a barbershop" I don't even understand the reasoning to that one. What the hell?

I think each is reflective of the ideals of its time, but I am left wondering from what jurisdiction(s) you found these.
Personally, I find the 1915 rules irritate me more than the 1872 rules.
And I wonder if they achived a net good or were net oppressive.
ADDED: Forgot the "belief system". I am a Catholic who is not immune to bouts of doubting.

Well, as long as your stockings are opaque and cover the entire leg, I suppose it is reasonable to allow dresses that short.
I see the tobacco police were so strong in 1915 that they managed to get their anti-smoking rule in twice.
Might improve our government school systems if those rules were still in effect.
Argh - forgot to state my belief system. I believe that people should take responsibility for their own actions. I am a strict constructionist as far as the Constitution is concerned, and I have a deep and abiding faith in G-d.

Wow...!! Did you look this stuff up??? Awesome. Yeah, you're right. Things have changed. Now the women teachers dress in pants and have sex with the kiddies. Guess they should go back to the way it was??? Sounds a lot safer for the kids then 'cause they only got whacked with a ruler over the knuckles. Now they get molested. Big difference. And they talk against ministers and priests. Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh, right. :>)

This shows just how immoral & worthless our scociety has become today!
We should still be living according to these rules.Especially ,married ppl!No more" creeping"around & setting bad examples for our children.
If we lived with good moral rules, our problems would be much fewer in todays world.
