A female crocodile lays on the bank of the water reservoir by digging hole and dropping eggs into it. The hole is then covered.
In summer a crocodile prefers to live in a place which is shady, and is close the reservoir. It may bury in the mud.But in any case it breathes by means of atmospheric air that enters through the dorsally placed nostrils on the tip of the snout. All reptiles( turtles, lizards, snakes, crocodiles) have lungs

Reproduction in crocodiles is the most elaborate of the reptiles. Courtship and mating occur in the water. The female digs a hole in the soil for the 30 or so eggs. Crocodile embryos do not have sex chromosomes, and unlike humans sex is not determined genetically. Sex is determined by temperature, with males produced at around 31.6 degrees celsius, and females produced at slightly lower and higher temperatures. The average incubation period is around 80 days, and also is dependent upon temperature. Nests are often guarded by the female. The young may remain together as a pod with the female for a year or more. Crocodiles tend to congregate in freshwater habitats like rivers and lakes and wetlands and sometimes in brackish water. Some species, notably the Saltwater Crocodile of Australia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands often lives along the coastal areas as its name implies. It is also known to venture far out to sea. By summer, crocodiles still stay on the same area where it has grown. In case of drought, it will migrate temporarily to a wetland where it can find abundant food.

The eggs are laid in safe marshy spots. The crocodiles continue to live in the same habitat unless the sub-surface water also dries up.In extreme droughts ,which the corocs are smart enough to know well in advance through the changing
( increasing) pattern of heat in the water, they migrate temporarily to the estuarian waters at river mouths.
