I agree it is most likely you have a slight ear infection, taking into account you have a sore throat. If you feel OK while you are sitting /lying down until you attempt to get up, suggests this could be the case. What is a little more worrying is the fact that you say it lasts for up too 20 mins. Is this an estimation on your part ? are you exaggerating a little ? The fact that the dizziness lasts longer could also be due too panic and breathing too heavily because you are distressed by the initial feeling of dizziness when you stand up, this would also account for the feelings of nausea. I wouldn't go panicking, i am sure if your mom thought there was anything seriously wrong with you she would have had you straight to the doctors office. It would be a very good idea for your mom to arrange an appointment for you though, incase you need some antibiotics, and to check that there are no other underlying causes for your symptoms, and too put your mind at peace.

You should go to the doctor dear. They can definitively diagnose the problem. Make sure you warn your mother that dizziness can be a very serious symptom -- especially if it lasts as long as 20 minutes.
However I'd suspect a bunch things right off the bat.
1. You're getting a cold. Solution - wait it out.
2. You're not eating enough. Eat more.
3. You have low blood pressure and are standing up too quickly for someone who has low blood pressure. A way to combat this is to stand up more slowly and eat more salty things and drink caffeinated beverages.
4. You have a serious infection of some sort. Doctor deals.
5. You have diabetes or low blood sugar unrelated to not eating enough. Doctor deals with.
6. You have a heart condition. Doctor.
7. You have some sort of other disorder. Doctor.
8. You are somehow poisoning yourself with something (ie. you are drinking mouthwash, you are drinking too much alcohol or another drug), or are being poisoned. Doctor.
9. It's a side effect to something perfectly legit you are taking, like aspirin.
So YES.. you should be concerned because it goes in the spectrum from a simple cold or low blood pressure.. to various life-threatening conditions.
Go to docs. :)

The center of your balance is in your ears, and there is a tube which leads from there into your throat, if you have a sore throat, then maybe you have a little ear infection also. If that's the case then it is normal that you will feel a little dizzy. Maybe your mom should take you along to see your doctor and have it checked out, you might need a weeks course of antibiotic medication too fight off any infection. In the meantime drink plenty of fluids and don't try to get up from a sitting / lying position too quickly or it affects the balance mechanism in your ear and will make you dizzier.I don't think you have much too worry about, but to put your mind at ease a visit too the doctor wouldn't hurt.

How long have you been experiencing these symptoms? Simply saying "lately" doesn't tell me anything.
Either way, if this really has been going on for a while, and if it really seems like it is serious, you should go to a professional to get checked out.
And when you go, be prepared to tell the MD:
- ALL of your symptoms
- how long you have been experiencing them
- what makes the symptoms go away
- what makes the symptoms get worse
Until then, be sure that you are having enough to eat and drink, and getting enough rest.

This is not right. If you where older it could be blood pressure.Or that you are pregnant. The sore throat could be strep throat and or an ear infection.Ear problems can cause dizziness.Get to a Dr before you pass out and hurt yourself. If she does not want to take you then tell her that it is getting worse and you are scared.Tell you school nurse or someone in school that you are not feeling good and want to go home. Then tell her you need to go to the Dr.Please get checked

sore throat, huh?
You might just be a bit tired and not getting enough energy.
Or it might be a thyroid problem.
There might be other symptoms like bulging of the eye, fatigue, weight loss. If you observe these symptoms, .you have a thyroid prob. Or else you may be diabetic.
OK sorry for the fear I instilled in you
Good luck

Being dizzy for 5-20 minutes is not normal, lady, especially if its happening on a regular basis. Get your mom up off her blessed assurance and get her to drive you to a doctor.
