Hi, I was wondering if anybody know's about how much a first kitty vist should be? What needs to be done also? I live in the Seattle, WA area. I know the cost would be different everywhere. But I am just wanted to know a ball park figure? And what needs to be done.
Thanks in advance!!!

Try to find a low-cost vaccine clinic in your area. A kiten will need to be tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline HIV. Also they will need to be dewormed and give their first series of vaccinations. You can probably get out of there by spending about $120 (tops). Also if you tell your Vet that you rescued the kitten you can get a lower cost. But definitely look into finding a Low-Cost Clinic that ill vaccinate and also spay/neuter your kitty at a decent price. Hit up the internet.... RESEARCH

In general, it depends on the age of the kitty. If it's a kitten under the age of 6 mos. a first visit shouldn't cost more than $35-$50 any vaccinations would be additional and are usually spaced out over a number of weeks. Also, if you spay/neuter (always recommended) that is a bit of an expensive operation. If you adopt from a shelter, usually the kitty is looked over by the attending vet and receives all medical care until it is adopted. You may also get free services when you adopt through a shelter during the first weeks/months of your new life with your new family member :)

I work at a vet and we have cheap prices, however i am nowhere near you but for an idea here...
Office call-31.00
Feline leuk/hiv test-55.00
De-wormer-9.50
first vaccine-19.00
total...114.50
That gives a full exam/health check, testing for disease (which is recommended, if positive the kitten could die anywhere from weeks to a few years.

Next time u come in (at our clinic) you just pay for deworm and vaccine.
they get 3 kitten shots, and rabies with the last one.
you have an option of other vaccines too. If indoors you should get the kitten shots plus feline leukimia and rabies (you can carry in distemper and leukimia from outside even if your cats inddors only)
If out side too... you also need FIP, and FIV.
Good luck hope this helps.
Spay or neutering should be done around 6 months of age. Spay (for a girl runs 160) neuter for a boy 70.00

This office visit is not a rip off, the cat will get a full exam. Check for any problems. The fee is for the doctors time to check out your cat... It isnt free you know, doctors get paid too. And a spay is much more expensive than a neuter, you arent going to find one for under a 100 bucks, trust me. EVEN at the shelters.

At my practice, a "First Kitten Visit" (under 6 months)is as follows:
Exam by doctor
FVRCP vaccine
Fecal check
New kitten hand outs
Deworming
-------------------
$51.00

We do recommend a Feline Leukemia/FIV Test :$46

The kitten will need vaccines every 21-28 days until 14-16 weeks old:
Exam by doctor
FVRCP vaccine series
------------------
$25.00 (Deworming if needed($7)

At 14-16 Weeks old, they are old enough for a rabies vaccine: $25

Spay / Neuter (recommended at 4 months/before 6 months):
Exam by doctor morning of surgery
Hospitalization
Pre-anesthetic injection
Anesthesia
Surgery
----------------------
$61.00 for males
$83.00 for females (pain medication additional $10-20 if needed)

Not all vets, including where I work, charge for an additional "office call" for every vaccine visit. We only charge the $36 fee if there is a significant problem that takes additional doctor time and diagnostics.

Hope this gives you an idea of what to ask for and expect.

The kitty needs to get it's first set of shots which is just a Distemper shot. Also I would get the kitty tested for worms. Most vets ask that you bring a stool sample with you on your first visit. When I took my kitty to the vet for the first time it was only $54 for the shot and the fecal testing.

Call your local PetCo. They have vaccination clinics every Sunday and you should be able to get all the shots your kitty needs for under $30.

If she needs to be fixed, that will be from $40 - 50.

Do NOT go anywhere (like listed above) that charges a "visit fee" or "office fee". This means they are charging you just to walk in the door. Rip off!!

The figure varies greatly. there are low cost spay/neuter clinics like MY Pets Vet in Redmond and the Humane Society as well, they also offer low cost vaccines. for other stuff try City Search, for the best vet. As for what else needs to be done that depends on the health of your cat and it's age.

Some vets offer free first pet visit (just a check up). But if shots are caled for, you'll need to pay for those. It depends a lot on the vet clinic. Places that specialize on cats tend to cost more. My vet (Greenway Pet Clinic) charges $23.00 for checkup and consutation. Open your yellow book and call around.
