It would certainly help, but you'll need to do more than stop drinking soda if you want to lose weight.
There is no magic weight-loss pill, supplement, fad diet, or juice. The ONLY way to lose weight is to consume less calories than you burn. Brad Pitt didn’t get cut for Fight Club by just not drinking soda, and you won’t either.
Walk for 30 minutes every day including weekends, Mondays, and Fridays. Do at least 30 minutes of weight training each week. Do 60 minutes of additional, higher intensity cardio each week. You don’t need additional equipment—infomercial products like the Ab Lounger, Sauna Belt, etc. are all worthless so don’t waste your money.
Cut back on the foods you eat with high fat and high sugar content. Eat only single servings (read the label) with less than 3 grams trans fat and 3 grams sugars. Your primary source of sustenance should be grilled boneless skinless chicken breasts and canned tuna (in water, not oil). No dairy (except low fat cottage cheese occasionally); no processed meats; no heavy sauces; no chips, cookies, sodas, breads, etc.
Eat breakfast, and eat five small meals per day instead of three big meals. Don’t starve yourself during the day, but if you don't wake up famished, then you ate too much the day before. Stop eating at least two hours before you go to bed.
Get 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night. Turn off the TV and the computer. Sleep is vitally important.
Don't consume alcohol—alcohol is nothing more than empty calories with no nutritional value. Some people will argue that alcohol has some health benefits when consumed in moderation—I’m not debating that—but we’re talking about weight loss here. Lay off the booze if you want to lose the fat.
Drink lots of water, then drink more. Not tea, not Gatorade, not milk. Water. If your urine isn’t almost clear, you need to drink more water.
Good luck.

Well, yes. Yes it certainly can. Here's a couple things about soda. First a foremost, your average can of soda is going to net you about 170 calories. Your average person should be taking in about 1900-2000 daily with no exercise. But there's other deciding factors.
Unstable blood sugar is a fastrack to weight gain. I'll give you one guess what slamming a soda does considering the average 25 grams of sugar in one. It spikers your blood sugar, and in about an hour or so once your body finally processes that, your blood sugar drops. In addition, caffeine makes for very unstable blood sugar as well.
Sugar in itself turns to fat quicker than even basic carbohydrates. Of course your body burns it for energy, but it only burns so much, the rest goes right to fat storage.
I will also mention that I can't think of a job in the world that you cannot bring an apple to. Eating healthy is always possible. If you have a place to store your coat, I can give you 10 meals that you can store without required cooking or refrigeration. I won't bash you for not doing so, as I eat crappy myself sometimes, but ruling out the possibility shouldn't ever happen.
For the record, I cut out artificial sugars all together when I got a bit heavier and lose 30 lbs in 46 days. Not bad for such a minor change. Best wishes!

Actually, cutting out soda is only 1 factor that can help lose weight. Cutting down on processed foods high in sugars, and doing more exercises helps more. Most processed foods have sugar, corn syrup, or other high fructose syrups added to them. Essentially corn syrup and other high fructose syrups are forms of sugar. As most dietitians say "read the label" if sugar and high fructose syrups are higher on the list, the more sugars it has. Fat free foods tend to add more sugar to adjust the taste from lose of fats. Exercises more, drink more water, and cut back on sugar intake and you'll see the weight come off. Can't say that you'll large amounts of weight in a given time, but you will lose weight. There is no miracle pill to help lose weight either, simple adjusting your food intake, and exercises will help.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

Water, water, water....Unfortunately, I have a soda addiction. I usually drink about 2-3 liters a day, and when I change to water, I drop weight as if i starved myself, and thats the only thing I change. Gatorade doesnt count though, its still not water, and it contains sugar. I cant stand it, but I just switched back to water again 2 weeks ago and dropped 15 pounds. It really does work and I've even got pics to prove it.

yea its true....
not many people have noticed this but soda has ALOT of calories, and the more soda you drink the more calories you add up which causes you to be overweight.Think of soda as like 3 chocolate candybars, people always think candybars are SO FATTY but they never notice that a soda and 2 candycars are prettymuch the same thing.... when people go on a diet they say no i cant have any candybars but then they go and have a pepsi....and again they dont notice that it is just like eating a few candybars..
drop the soda , drop the weight!!

An awesome way to cut soda is to drink water with Mio or other water enhancers. They're calorie free and there are alot of flavors to like. Hell if you wanted you could drink seltzer with Mio and itd be like good tasting, calorie free soda, except its water!

150 CALORIES PER SODA...
3 SODAS A DAY 450 CALORIE..3500 CALORIE A POUND/
9 DAYS 4050 CALORIES OVER A POUND ALONE..
ABOUT 4 POUNDS A MONTH WHEN YOU STOP 3 SODAS A DAY. SO THAT IS 24 LBS IN 6 MONTHS AT 3 SODAS DAILY STOPPED.. 4 SODAS A DAY STOPPED WOULD BE ABOUT 30 LBS ABOUT...IF YOU REPLACED SODA WITH WATER..
WATER FLUSHES MORE WASTE OUT WHICH HELPS EVEN MORE...
SUGAR IS SUGAR...GATORADE HAS SUGAR..TRY WATER..
