the past couple months i keep having these scary dreams where serial killers are coming to kill me or my family. sometimes i wake up crying or shaking. i don't want to even go to sleep anymore. i don't know if this is obsessive-compulsive, paranoia...when it gets dark i keep checking the locks, mostly when i'm alone. this is ruining my life!

anxiety dreams.
Often nightmares are caused by stress, traumatic experiences, emotional difficulties, drugs or medication, or illness. However, some people have frequent nightmares that seem unrelated to their waking lives. Recent studies suggest that these people tend to be more open, sensitive, trusting, and emotional than average.

Well in my experiences of working with ppl with disabilities and behaviors. These nightmares and your paranoia fall under paranoid schizophrenia. But since I hope you dont fall under the catagory of delusions and voices in your head maybe the underlying cause is an issue you have to put to rest. Is there a main point in your lfie that is causing huge amounts of stress, or have you suffered from any traumatic experiences if so you may need to see someone who knows what they are talking about. A therapist possibly.

My guess is it could be depression with a little anxiety splashed in. Your obsessiveness is part of the anxiety you are feeling, and checking the locks is a definate symptom. I would definately go see a docter

ive had those dreams, they usually mean that theres something in your life that you feel is overtaking you, perhaps killing your spirit, your joy, your happiness? they're usually not prophetic, unless your dreams often come true for you...the best thing to do is to look at your life and see if theres an overwhelming situation occuring--is someone dying? lose a job? lose a friend? afraid of losing a friend? bills piling up? that sort of thing...the dreams usually stop when the situation has been dealt with.

Try to relax and make a Dr's appointment to get some volume or something. Do you live in a bad area of town? If so think about moving someplace a bit more safe

You need hypnosis regression therapy. There must be a reason why these nightmares are plaguing you. Hypnosis if done correctly over several sessions can probe into your subconcious and possibly even a past life (if you believe in that stuff).
