Read your bible, JC wasn't born in December ....

I wish people happy holidays and have for quite some time. It includes everyone. I don't really mind getting a few gifts as long as it doesn't go overboard. I don't care for an xmas tree. I am neither pagan nor xtian. I always cook at this time and have family over because everyone is off of work. I could live without the whole thing but my hubby (agnostic) enjoys it and he has kids that were used to it when growing up. Before I was an Atheist I was one of those Sabbath keepers that do not observe traditional xtian holidays so I got away from it long ago
My hubby loves a wonderful life and we always watch A Christmas Story . Poor little Ralphy

Tree-yes.
Wish people a merry christmas-No. I say happy holidays because ramadan and hanakhu are right around there too. In fact I bought something in a store once and the guy wished me a merry chirstmas and I told him I was Jewish. Should have see the look on his face.
Watch the movies- yes. Love the movies.
Personally, I wish there were something else I could celebrate. You see it's kind of a sticky situation as an atheist. I was raised in an Atheist house that celebrated Christmas, and I like Christmas. I would do away with it, but for my kids who are raised in a society when everybody else is getting Christmas and they get Jack ****. I mean, I was put upon as a kid because I was atheist and not celebrating Christmas is just another was of making us seperate from socity. Well, that's a hard situation. I haven't had kids yet. My boyfriend and I told ourselves we definatly would like to put more of a winter nature spin on it if we could. But anyways, there you go.

Many or even most of the traditional Christmas decorations are pagan in origin, including the Christmas tree, the Yule log, wreaths of organic materials such as pine boughs, holly, ivy, and mistletoe, candles or oil lamps, and other natural ornaments and far preceded Christmas, having been used in celebrating more ancient festivals at the winter solstice. I don't watch "It's a Wonderful Life" if I can help it! But, of course, I say "Merry Christmas" and send nonreligious Christmas cards, and I decorate my apartment. I may be an agnostic, but I am not an unreformed Scrooge! I make donations to the Salvation Army's bell-ringers...

Oh yes, we do always have a christmas tree, is there a problem with that? Even christians accept it's not a christian tradition.
And I will usually say "Felices Fiestas", or "Happy Holidays" to people around me. To christians who know me better I usually with a "Happy Winters Solstice" or a "Merry Nativity of Atis, Adonis, Dionisios and many others".
We also have gifts for everyone and have a very nice dinner with Champagne toast, and everything.
We don't really watch those movies because they're not very big down in Mexico, but there seem to be quite a few christmas movies shown on TV year after year.

As an Atheist, I do not celebrate Christmas. That means not having a Christmas tree, buying presents, or wishing people Merry Christmas. As for entertainment, I would rather rent a video, found in the action/comedy section of our local video store. Moreover, I do eat Turkey, not because of Christmas, but for the one reason that I am hungry.

My Dad bought us a Christmas tree and we accepted. Usually when people say "Merry Christmas", I respond with "Happy Holidays". I haven't been mugged for it yet. I don't watch Miracle on 34th anymore and haven't seen It's A Wonderful Life in years.

You do understand that Christmas is really no longer a Christian holiday. It's all about Santa Claus, presents, the young kids having a great time, and family dinners. It's more of a secular holiday these days.
Don't you Christians get pissed off realizing that buying a Christmas tree, presents, and Santa Claus actually defy the Second Commandment regarding the worshiping of false idols?

actual the Christmas tree isn't a Christian custom. and yuletide began as a pagan holiday that Christians commonly used so they could convert extra pagans to there faith. there's a pagan holiday relating to the solar demise and then being born on December twenty 5th. It actual has not something to do with the beginning of Christ yet is a pagan holiday commonly used by potential of the Catholic Church. yet anyhow haha to attend on your question... i'm 17 so I actual tend to do what my kin does. As i replaced into born right into a Christian kin and as quickly as a Christian myself I embody the pagan holiday because of fact it somewhat is exciting. and that i watch it somewhat is a superb existence each and every Christmas because of fact i admire the action picture. have faith it or not alot of atheist's have been born into non secular households. And it somewhat is hard to shake custom you you should grant you such happiness. i'm getting depressed around Christmas although I choose Jesus replaced into somewhat god. i admire Jesus he replaced right into a great guy yet there's no information for him being god. and that i be attentive to that if he somewhat is god he will different than that i attempted my terrific to discover the actuality. Sorry for asserting lots on the question i'm a passionate person and could desire to tell you the way i think. i'm uncertain approximately Santa Clause although. i don't choose to instruct my babies believie in a paranormal guy they cant see. yet I do choose to grant them the exhilaration I had as a newborn.

i don't know why some atheists celebrate the birth of Christ. Now i know it's not on the right date (its a pagan holiday) but still the celebration can be anyday. Just how some may celebrate their birthday a week later, its still the same celebration right? I have one atheist friend who chooses not to celebrate christmas. I think that is very respectful towards others who do take it seriouosly.
