3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

What your doctor is saying is that to get off any such pills you have to do so slowly by reducing the dosage/frequency you take the pills. Start by taking the pills every other day, then skip two days and so on, until you can finally stop completely.
Still, there must be a reason that you are on such pills in the first place. Be sure to monitor your blood pressure daily and anytime you feel strange or weird.
Do watch what you eat. Reduce sodium (and not just salt; many non-salty food have high sodium levels), eat more Cheerios or other such fiber foods, and be a bit more active.

Yes, never stop taking BP medication without weening off of them. You will actually want to take one every other day for a week then one every two days for another week and then if you are okay you can stop taking it. You do need to be under medical supervision when doing so though. Be sure to take your blood pressure everyday.

I f you take blood pressure meds and go off them you can have serious side effects and possible stroke or heart attack using alcohol at the same time, I think you should change doctors, this is nothing to play around with. You need the meds to control your blood pressure, what doc in his right mind would tell you to wean off them just to drink.
