The opposite of love is indifference.
Love is selflessness. The best example I can site is in the bible, 1st Corinthians 13, which describes the love Jesus has for us.

This is truly a profound question. I can think of some words such as hate, loathing etc which appear to be opposites of love but they are only good for a quick definition. Love is such an overwhelming and deep emotion that I think the opposite of love is to be incapable of loving.

the opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy.

Love is a strong emotional response towards another person.
Hate is the same, a strong emotional response.
Love and hate have a singular opposite, and that's apathy, the lack of any emotional response.

hate is the opposite of love
in my life love is:
#1 A Savior who died for my sins
a family who cares for me
love is when my children get along
laughter and warmth among family and friends
friends to hang out with
those who take the time to pray for others
children to be a mother to
a husband who is still with me after 21 years
people who are kind to one another
being able to share a meal with friends and laugh together
taking a meal to a sick friend
risking your life to tell someone the way of salvation
Love is in My Father's hand when He picks me up when I am down

I NEVER knew love until I had my son. Sure, I love my parents, my siblings, my husband (and I am deeply in love with my husband), etc. but I never knew that love could be so overwhelming, happy, painful and breathtaking until I had my son. It's alomost too much to bear at times. I love him so much that I can't even express it in words.

Cancer.
Love is the ability to know that we are all related. You can not hurt each other w/o hurting ourselves. This doesn't mean we have to like each other. But when one obsesses with feelings of hate, rage, disgust and contempt...it will internally manifest as cancer.

Nothing is opposed to love. All emotions are based on and lead back to love if not tampered with.
-----apathy may be a lack of love, but it is not opposed to it.

the opposite of love is the devil and his tricks,love is something that is unconditional,heartfelt and very loyal the idea of love means that there is nothing that you wouldnt do if possible and reasonable for someone LOVE_JESUS hate_the devil
