If you just have 3 days, maybe you can consider going to Chiangmai. Place is nice and the hotels are relatively cheap and good. Look at www.asiarooms.com for the list and the prices you can get, even online. If you like, go to www.directrooms.com and check and book direct with the hotel, which may be slightly cheaper too.

As for places, you can visit Doi Suthep Temple, Phu Phing Garden, Elephant Conservation Center with an elephant trek, make a hill tribe village visit. Nights can visit the Night Safari, Night Market and a traditional Northern Thai Kantoke Dinner and Cultural Show. This should make it worthwhile trip for your 3 days.

Need more info, you can email me at thaitourinfo@yahoo.com. Have a good time.

This is my list of what to do in Bangkok & Central Thailand. I guess you could choose whatever appeals to you and fill your 3 days with them. For cultural places the top is The Grand Palace, for animal-oriented places top = Safari World, for beautiful historical sites Ayutthaya would be my top pick:-

1) Grand Palace
2) Vimanmek Mansion (royal palace)
3) Thai Massage - the traditional massage is called 'Nuat Thai' and there are hundreds of places for this in Bangkok. This is proper Thai massage. However, there are also quite a few places that cater for customers wanting something sexier.
4) Safari World - safari park
5) Dreamworld - amusement park (includes snow dome & grown-ups size go-kart track, rollercoasters, etc.)
6) Day trip to a Floating Market
7) Day trip to Ayutthaya - old capital of Thailand - 50 miles north of Ayutthaya
8) Day trip to Kanchanaburi - west of Bangkok - bridge over the river kwai/tiger sanctuary
9) Weekend Market
10) Suan Lum Night Market (also has a big wheel)
11) National Museum (Bangkok)
12) Shopping - malls: MBK, Siam Paragon, Central World Plaza (they all have movie theaters too).
13) Shopping - local markets: Pratunarm market, Chinatown
14) Day trip to Khao Yai National Park - east of Bangkok
15) River Cruise on the Chao Phraya River
16) Dusit Zoo & Tropical Gardens
17) Temples - famous temples include Wat Pho, Wat Arun, Marble Temple, The Temple of the Golden Buddha
18) Go to the show at the Snake Farm
19) Jim Thompson's House
20) Samphran Elephant Show & Crocodile Farm
21) Bang Pa-In Palace
22) Day trip to Nakhon Pathom
23) Muang Boran (Ancient City)
24) Suan Pakkad Palace
25) Golden Mount
26) Crocodile Farm and Zoo

If you really what beautiful places and don't have much time then you could go to Muang Boran (Ancient City) which is a giant park outside Bangkok where all (well most) of the beautiful cultural sites in Thailand have been copied and re-created.

For hotels it depends on the quality of hotel you want. You could try www.asiarooms.com or www.wired-destinations.com

The traffic isn't that bad. Like most cities the roads become much quieter when people and not going to and coming home from work. Anyway, what I wanted to say was as this is such a short stay you might want to consider booking transit tours for you arrival day and departure day for that they don't become 'wasted days' from a sight-seeing perspective. Transit tours can be booked at the airport. Alternatively, http://thailandtravelservices.com/transit-tour-bangkok.html
