Bekkie asked if we put as much energy into humanity as we did into God, what would be different.
There were a lot of answers like "putting your faith in humanity is a dissapointment, put your faith in God".
But the question wasn't whether you should drop God, but if you spent the same amount of energy on people as well.
Think about it, would Jesus or Allah be more proud of you if you helped and cared about everyone in the world, and bonded with their other creations (people, animals, plants, etc) or if you just didn't bother with that and put all your energy on God?
Why are we on Earth if not to bond and help God's other creations, and leave the Earth better than it was when we came?

I'm not saying one needs to worship a God, but that they don't need to give one up.

I agree 100%
I believe this is what Christ was actually telling us....
Being good to each other and taking care of each other and the animals and our planet...is the way to God.
Not screaming praise Jesus every 10 min. but loving each other and the gifts god gave us on this earth is the true path....

I agree with your sentiment and the fact of the matter is that people are oblivious to the pain and suffering of others as long as we divide ourselves by cast or creed. If you took the supernatural entity out of the equation and the belief of being among the chosen, therefore by default have a feeling of superiority, then perhaps we could start to help each other. This is an extreme argument.
However, many faith based organisations are already working among the less advantaged nations of the world, but many cases come with the price or cultural erosion in the form conversion through the misionary work that goes hand-in-hand with the charity work.
Also has anyone considered that missionaries increase religious tensions in already volatile areas where tribalism is the traditional structure of society. Therefore reliogious beliefs developed along the lines of the strongest tribes, thus missionaries can indirecly increase competition for people's loyalties from the traditional norm of that region.

I'd extend the whole concept a little further. If we focused not just our energy or monies on human happiness, but our consciousness on human happiness, we'd be a lot happier.
Actually, I would say that in a lot of ways, pursuing what some people call God is a lot better than pursuing money or ego.
So I wouldn't categorically say that if we stopped spending money on churches and started spending on health-care that we'd be more happy. But, if we refocused our lives in a more broad way to maximize happiness, I think it would help.
For example, maybe we shouldn't be putting as much energy into anything. It's not unusual for two married people to both work 60 hours a week and never take a vacation. What kind of life is that? Maybe we should all work a little less and sit back and enjoy life sometimes, eh?

This question is one that really shouldn't even be asked. Why? Because if you put real energy on serving God then you will automatically give an appropriate amount of energy to helping your fellow man. The two goes hand in hand.

Please believe me. I've thought long and hard about this. I'm really sorry that I have to say this, but you seem to have no real concept of who God is, what He is, what He's done and why we're here.
You do seem to have a "Gaia" concept but that's 180 degrees out of phase with God.
I realize that Bekkie's question was not meant to exclude the existence of God so try this answer:
People are imperfect. Whatever amount of faith you put in them will not help make things better. Religions are imperfect as they are humanity reaching out to God. An impossible task.
God is perfect. The Earth and everything in it belongs to God. Christianity is God reaching out to humanity through Jesus. Our mission, should we decide to accept it, is to get to God. Only God can save us, this planet and everything in it.

yes, this is true. God created us for fellowship and relationship. And he also created us to go out and preach the gospel as well. My rommate, Melissa, and I go out with a group of Friends on Fridays and just hand out gospel tracks. We tell them about Christ using the Ray Comfort method. Sometimes it works and other times we argue with folks. But how else would they know the truth.

Why do I need a God to make me be good to others?
I'm fully capable, willing and wanting to help others because I can. Not because some superior being said I should.
Guess I don't get it.

Christians should help the poor,homeless,widows,orphans,weak.
Christians should take care of and be good stewards of animals and resources.
Christians don't need to be new age or worship mother earth.

.....Remove "God" from your final statement, then I will agree with you.
