Was it the 9/11 attack?

My candidate would be the extermination of the Albigensians in a Crusade ordered by the Pope specifically to wipe them out.

These Christians were wiped out and the Inquisition was founded to make sure their form of Christianity didn't arise again.

These people had done some pretty terrible things, like treating women as almost equal to men, and failing to sufficiently persecute the Jews who were living among them.

Honestly -- I know this sounds like a copout -- if "initiative" is military, aggressive and inteded to destroy, I think there is no such thing as faith-based initiative. I think these things are brought on by people who are either misguided or liars themselves, or who seek to misguide and lie to other to further their cause.

Yeah... the inquisition probably sucked... which is why we need to keep religion out of government
