I never would have guessed that. Since I was unable to go to my regular hairdresser the last time I needed a haircut, I went to someone else who seemed to know her stuff. Other than that one statement (which was drawn out into a lecture the entire time) which made me blink. I have used many products in the past that made my hair feel drier and stiffer than straw, that I was told by other hairdressers was because they were bad for your hair, and also name brands that you can buy only in a salon. I also noticed that when I walked out of my appt with her, my hair was really stiff like straw whereas my salon shampoo at home has never done that. Was she a bad hairdresser with lack of knowledge or are the good products really supposed to dry out your hair like she said?

Stiff? Like straw? That's obsurd. Your instincts are right about this stylist. Products and chemicals that dry your hair out aren't good because they make your hair brittle and more susceptible to breakage and split ends. Do you remember that old shampoo commercial (I think it was Infusium) where the woman would scrunch her hair and said she could hear it. That is a sign of really dry hair, and it isn't good. I don't think you should go back to that stylist at all. I don't think you would have anyway. You are smart, and shouldn't doubt your better judgement. ;-)

The good products do NOT dry out your hair. If silky shiny hair is due to bad products, then, okay, I can live with that. I prefer silky shiny hair don't you?
