I got my cat neutard today and when i came back to pick him up the girl told me he got really aggresive on the table and they had to box him (how was he aggressive if he was supposed to be knocked out???). when i took him to my moms (was neutard in her area). He was growling and hissing, things i had never,never,ever seen or heard him do!!!! He tried to scratch and bite. He had been playful like that but never "aggressive" he's better now at home but why did he act like that???? what should i do now thats he's neutard so he's not in pain. (the vet said i didnt have to do anything) help!!

Hey, just to add to some of the pretty good answers...it is very likely he was still waking up from anesthesia. There are a few injectable anesthetics that cause disorientation while they are waking up, and these are used most commonly for cat neuters. Depending on when he was anesthetized and when you picked him up, he could have still had a decent amount of drugs in his system. He wasn't trying to be aggressive towards you,he was just stressed and "under the influence".It is very common for cats to get upset in a stressful situation, what the girl at the vet was trying to say was he got aggressive BEFORE he was knocked out, probably while they were trying to give him the injectable anesthetic. Your cat is NOT in severe pain. Neutering is a very quick easy surgery. He may be uncomfortable for a day or two, but he will heal up very quickly. I have ALOT of experience with cat neuters, I am a vet tech and I have worked in a spay/neuter clinic assisting with as many as 30 neuters a day. Your cats reaction is fairly common. He will settle down overnight and will be back to normal tomorrow. Ignore all the idiots who say he is mad because "his balls got cut off". Remember anyone with a computer can get on here, regardless if they know anything or not!

Imagine that you are your cat. You're sitting there, enjoying life, when all of a sudden, you're picked up, dropped off at some strange place; new, scary people are poking and prodding you---of course you're going to feel intimidated and try to protect yourself. Being a vet tech, believe me, cats do it all the time! Cats don't like any change in their routine!
Also, something could've set him off at the clinic, a bad blood draw attempt or someone man-handled him and he didn't like that. Plus, when you throw drugs into the mix, he may have been/is disoriented from left over anesthetic.
Cat's respond to the smell of their surroundings. If you've ever had two cats that are buddy buddy, take one to the vet, and watch them fight when you get home, because they no longer smell like "family". I think your cat will calm down. Just be patient. If he doesn't, he could be in pain, or have an infection. Your vet shoudl be called regardless if the behavior keeps up. That's what you pay him for.

It's also possible that the form of anesthesia given to your cat caused that kind of reaction when he was coming out of it. After I had my cat neutered (I assisted in it, so I saw him in all stages of anesthesia) when the drug started to wear off he became very spastic, flailing about and gave my boss (the vet) quite a nasty scratch on the arm. Some forms of anesthesia can cause jerky involuntary movements like that that can lead to ugly looking behavior. As long as your cat is acting fine now that's what I would chalk it up to.

The vet may have not given him enough anethesia and the cat is in PAIN. He has just had a traumatic experience and is in pain and afraid. In such situations, adrenalin will overcome any residual sedative effect of the anesthetic and the cat's natural reaction is fight or flight. Give him time to calm down by keeping him confined in a quiet room. Put his food and water bowl there and a litter box. Remember,even the sweetest cat will growl and hiss and fight if he is in pain. Just give your poor kitty plenty of peace and quiet and allow him to calm down... he wil you know... just leave him be for now. Look in to chack up on him now and again, but right now, your kitty wants to be left in peace.

Hello. My cat when we got him neutered he was so angry he stayed awake in a blind fury even when he had been given a sedative! They even taped his box shut and he still got out of it. I actually don't blame him for being ticked that you just had his area snipped off. I am sorry that he is exerting it out on you though. This behavior should die down after awhile though. Good luck.
