A freshman at Eagle Rock Junior High won first prize at the Greater Idaho Falls
Science Fair, April 26. He was attempting to show how conditioned we have become
to alarmists practicing junk science and spreading fear of everything in our
environment. In his project he urged people to sign a petition demanding strict
control or total elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen monoxide." And for
plenty of good reasons, since it can:

1. cause excessive sweating and vomiting;
2. it is a major component in acid rain;
3. it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state;
4. accidental inhalation can kill you;
5. it contributes to erosion;
6. it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes;
7. it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients.

He asked 50 people if they supported a ban of the chemical. Forty-three said
yes, six were undecided, and only one knew that the chemical was "WATER", H2O.

I used this in my science classes. My students took a questionnaire around to anyone who wasn't a science teacher. (The effects were listed.) The possible answers were 1) ban, this shouldn't be allowed; 2) restrict while studying effects; 3) more study is needed - don't restrict until studies are in; 4) allow, there is no problem. The best answer I got was from a parent who did water quality tests for the city. He said, "No, no, world wide dehydration and death."

I put a poster of the effects of dihydrogen monoxide outside my classroom door. One (Just 1!!!) kid came by and asked me, "Isn't that water?" I told him, "Yes, but many people want to ban it." It was a great lesson in the problem of making decisions based on ignorance.

Anything in excess is bad even your Di-Hydrogen Monoxide(H2O), imagine it filling up your entire house and land that you live in...:), you would certainly ask for a ban or atleast some restriction.
See alarmists arent good but that does not mean all environmentalists are bad. There are certian chemicals /lifestyles that can kill you. Try eating plastic carry bags and see what happens to different organs in your stomach and then you will realize what happens to animals which eat those.
If you cant use your brains their aint much use for you anyways, better H2O rather than some more complex chemical inside your spleen and gallbladder and rectum et al.
