The gospel of judas, the true nature of mary madgelane, among countless other things. Wouldn't the "true stories" give the followers of their god a deeper understanding of their god? As an atheist it just tells me that this "divine" story which can be altered at will by man is anything but divine. What do you think?

Religion is based on faith alone . In the face of fact you rely on faith regardless of any facts .
Since you can not prove anything exists in the universe and that we may all just be the manifestation of a thought in the mind of the creator of all things ,its impossible to deny or prove the existence of even your own life let alone religion or God .

The real question that science can not answer is what we are made of . The pieces or parts that make us what we appear to be do not exist . Dark matter , string theory , our very existance can not be proved . That we are here is not prove in and of itself that we do in fact exist .
If we can not determine what we are made of then simply we are energy which we know in our own minds is capable of creating dreams that feel real . We sweat , toss turn , and all to imaginary stimulus in our minds .

I apparently have lots of sex in my dreams because I always have a hard on in my sleep . .

The REAL answer to your question was that all of that stuff was dumped to "keep the peace" in the Roman Empire after the converted to Christianity. The fear was - that will all the different scriptures being used by Christians the variation in belief of those who called themselves Christian was huge so they held a council (at Nicea) to decide what was cannon (acceptable) and what was not - that way - anyone using other scriptures could be called heretics and killed...

I believe that the bible is not altered by man but interpreted by man and teaches us about God. It's your opinion that people hide the truth but you as an atheist are reading the words for your own interpretation. I may not understand the full truth of God and his teachings, but I believe that he loved me and you enough to give us life and believe that I will know all things when I reach his kingdom.

well, ask yourself first why the bible wasn't written for so long after the events happend? Which bible is to be followed? As for Mary...she is a woman and the church is run by men. If it was proven that Jesus was married to a woman and produced a child then the basis of the catholic religion would fall apart. They hide what will ruin them. Jesus would then just be a prophet instead of a "being"(can't think of the word I need)

The gospel of Judas was left out because it did not jive with the other gospels. If 4 followers are telling you one story and one follower who happened to help kill Jesus was telling a different story who would you believe? If you chose to believe Judas over the other 4 it obvious you don't want to believe to begin with.

Wow, I am amazed, you assume that Christianity is "hiding" something you call "true stories" when these contradict the real truth of scripture. The reason Historical Christianity rejects these is that when they were written the church recognized them as false. I find it quite humorous that a supposed atheist can presume to make any kind of judgment about Christianity or Christian History, Atheist by nature are intellectually dishonest. One must believe in the possibility of a God in order to reject God, and if you accept the possibility of a God you are no longer Atheist. If you reject the possibility of God, you have to ask what the definition of the word God is, in which case you must then decide if there is a possibility of God existing! So as an Atheist it seems you are in a catch 22 quagmire.

It's quite the opposite actually. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. The canon of scripture is closed. The church fathers have turned away these books you mention, because they would actually pollute the truth. If it is not in the bible.....there is good reason for it not being there.

That is what I think.

Not all writings are of God.True scripture agrees with each other.
Many have wrote things claim to be sometimes even "more valid" then the bible.God never allows people to speak for Him (when He didn't speak.Get a bible and compare.

What??? That makes absolutely no sense.

Anything with the word "gospel" in it is of divine revelation? Wow, I see your problem.
