I always make amv's with windows movie maker but now i want to use it and anytime i import a video it says "file cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again." i installed DivX and xvid but what am i suppose to do after i install it because it still dont work and i still cant import anything what am i suppose to do after i install it????I'm trying to use wmv files and my computer is windows xp.

adensoft is a file converter use something like it. in my experience windows software is not going to be missing a codec if it is you should update movie maker.

I have the same problem. Mpg files created with my Sony camera can't be imported into MovieMaker. I see lots of people having this problem on various boards on the Internet. and lots of poeple essentially saying that there shouldn't be a problem. There is.

if you only need to view the video/movie try "vlc media player - videoLAN" it plays all the different programs i tried.
