Well they SHOULD!
According to the book of mark, any Christian can drink deadly poison and not die.
They can also lay their hands on the sick and heal (just like jesus)
(thats mark 16:16-18)
Of course the bible did state this is only possible for baptized TRUE believers.
I am half worried that some wacky christian will read this and KNOW they are a true believer and drink a bottle of clorox, hmmm hope i am not liable.

System of a Down: I am not the one promoting self harm, thats the bible. I am just telling you whats in that thing.
SeetheLight: If you still believe that the christian hucksters are healing cancer with some healing voodoo stuff, look up penn and tellers trick with red dyed cotton and sleight of hand.
Flutterby, would the lord want you telling me to drink poison?
Do any of you christians EVER practice the preachings of the bible?

Angelique: No need to get so indignant. I didnt say you dont believe. However, if you find yourself UNABLE to heal the sick. I would say BASED ON THE BIBLE. That you are not a true believer.

they should have a whole "drink poison day" to weed out the non-believers among them.

Christians that live in backwater America in some places believe so. They've drank snake poison on some occasions and what-not. I'm a firm believer in mind-over-matter...but come on! In the reality that God does exist, why is he going to save you from the poison you drank? Just so you can prove his point to an audience? Craziness!
I am no a Christian personally, but I think that someone should rewrite the Bible. I've never read it before but I've heard the stories...and what you're telling me in the explination of your question is downright mad. Anyone that drinks poision MIGHT die... and that's depending on the amount taken and the ability of the immune system. I wouldn't try it, that's for sure...

Well the Bible has had so many additions & omissions throughout these 2000 years or so, that it is far from resembling a book of God. There are some passages that seem authentic, as some of it is probably based on Jesus' teachings, but a great portion of it is nonsense.
As a Muslim, I have to believe in the bible and all of the books of God, however, I shouldn't follow them because they have been changed. God has sent one last book, the Holy Qur'an, which has never been changed (it's been over 1,400 years!), not even a letter!

Understand that these are miracles. These are things that you can do with the power of Christ - now counter in that all over the news and television there have been reports of the Tomb of Christ and his remains being found. I think even the most devout believer might have enough doubt in his mind that he probably shouldn't down a gallon of Clorox.
Faith in God and His Son will protect His followers from much harm, but by deliberately placing ourselves in harms way, aren't we just asking for it? It's like a 4' nothing kid standing in front of the 6'6 bully and saying "it's okay, I believe in Christ and He will stop you!!!"
I believe that Christ protects us from our mistakes, not from our sheer stupidity. If you want to read the scriptures and interpret them one way or another that is why there are so many faiths, but why would there be a God who saves all off us because we decided to test His powers by drinking a tub of Draino?
Why don't you test it first and then let me know how it goes?

Whats wrong with people believing in God? I mean really! Does it hurt you or threaten you that they truly with all their hearts believe in something? In the biblical times God created miracles and performed them almost everyday. God had to prooved his self on a many of occasions for people like you. Let be tell you something though friend whom I care about. God said that there would be greater miracles than raising the dead. He said that We would be able to raise the spiritial dead. Every day we see miracles and try to explain them away. We are so blind that we don't see them. If Christians cause you so much pain and anguish then don't talk about them and let them go on their mary way. It isn't hurting you. God wants people who believe with faith that is endless. If he wanted robots he would have made them but he wanted people who care and believe even though they can't see and feel him physicaly. The reason why Jesus came was so that we could live by faith and not by law. Besides if you were to read a peice of a book you really don't know what the whole thing is about. I am not trying to change your mind but just wanted to say that it is alright to believe different and even ask questions. It is okay to doubt and keep trying to proove it wrong because you will find out for yourself what you want to know.

It does say to not put the Lord your God to the test. I believe it means that if a Christian had unwittingly drank something harmful & God hadn't said it was their time yet, they would survive. Remember that he said some Christians would be martyred, so some were killed in different ways because God determined it was time for them to come home. Remember when Satan was testing Jesus? Luke 4:9-12 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down from here. For it is written: " 'He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.' " Jesus answered, "It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

I would like your definition of a "True" believer. There is a point that has been over looked here. Testing God, or challenging Him is a good way to end up dead. No where in the Bible is it ever condoned to do anything that is known to be unhealthy condones as a means to prove your yourself, or to test God in any way. A "true" believer, who is mature in their understanding of the Bible is going to know this. So, God can, and does protect His own from those who would try to hurt them. What He does not do is to protect them from their own folly.

Actually that only applied to the period before the fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. These gifts were given as a sign to religious leaders that they had rejected the Messiah and thus Jerusalem would fall. No Christian today can drink poison and not die.

Believe it or not, I've attended a service in the mountains (Tennessee) where they actually drank lye, and danced around with snakes, copperheads and rattlers. One gal got tagged by a pretty hefty copperhead! She slowly turned pretty pale, but the folks there did some prayers and laid her in a pew, never did go for medical help. Don't know if she survived that o r not... I don't want to go back!

YOU SHALL NOT TEMPT THE LORD YOUR GOD!!!
satan himself tried to tempt Jesus into doing just that, using ps. 91, and this was His reply.
, if it happens by accident-- that is one thing....and the person is not DELIBERATELY tryint to see or to prove that God will keep him or
her safe..
.but if it's some so-called 'test' that man decides on for
himself, that is surely PRESUMING on God.....
I have heard of some congregations playing with snakes for the same purpose.....
That is why one should ALWAYS check things out by the Word of
God and not just take the word of a church leader, who may be mistaken at the very least.....
Paul wrote, LET GOD BE TRUE BUT EVERY MAN A LIAR
Just keep in mind what happened to those who followed Jim Jones down to South America and committed suicide with kool-aid.....
I don't have to PROVE anything to anyone on earth....
I KNOW in whom I have believed......
Man judges by the outward appearance.
God judges by the heart.... (I Samuel)
