I've decided that enlisting is the step for me and I am prepared to go active duty and deploy to iraq if necessary. After my commitment I plan on going to college and getting my degree. but the problem and my question is deciding between the two branchs I've narrowed it down to and they are the marines and the army. could someone tell me why you chose one branch over the other or the pros and cons of both?

They are both great branches. I am currently in The Army. I am a Staff SGT. The best thing to do is go to both Marines and Army websites and see what they have to offer you and what you can offer the services.

Don't let anyway make the decision for you, some people going to say one is better and well trained more than the other. We are both THE BEST AT WHAT WE DO! Good luck, if you have any questions about the US Army you can email me @ airborne11binfantry@yahoo.com, im not a recruiter so I wont lie as some tend to do.

Both training is very hard, dont pick the easier one, you should always want the best training possible not the easier way out, Both branches get the same benefits, all of the five branches do, listen and ask advice from soldiers, marines, sailors or airmen, thats it.

I would say, if you are interested in technical skills that will apply beyond the military, you need to go Army. I'm an Air Force Veteran. In my opinion the Air Force and the Navy will give you a thousand more options for techical skills, but obviously you have your reasons for wanting to go in the Marines or the Army.
Be sure that you pick a job you really want and DO NOT enlist until you have a 100% guarantee that you will get the job you want. Go delayed enlistment and fight for your right to get trained in the job you really want.
I would say that some of the best jobs in the Army would be Tank engine mechanic, helicopter mechanic, motorpool mechanic, electrician, Army Corp of Engineers, civil engeers( the people who make buildings), Radio technician, computer specialists, Army intelligence, Security Police, medical specialist, dental specialist. But I wouldn't go into infantry! Not if you want a good skill that will help you once you're out of the military and trying to get your college degree. You'll wish you had technical skills once you start taking science course in college. You just might decide you want to become an engineer and your military training would have had helped you with your future careers. I speak from personal experience.
Another thing is you can get all the same exact training and skills but instead of going Active Duty, Go Gaurd! The Gaurd pays for a lot of your college while you're in the Gaurd and once you're out of the Gaurd, you'll get the GI Bill just like the active duty people.
And you can be in the Gaurd and at the same time go to college and use Student Loans ( everyone is elligable for student loans) to help pay your rent and pay your tuition. I wished someone had told me this before I went active duty! I didn't know that I could barrow thousands and thousand of dollars to help pay tuition, and pay rent and also get the Gaurd to pay my tuition as well. You really are better off going Gaurd that is of course if you plan on college!

Ultimately the choice is yours and none of us in this forum can decide for you. You want an informed decision, do all the research on each branch. There are pros and cons to each. Everything from housing, off duty time, deployment time, training, education, promotions, etc.
My biased opinion is the Army. I made E7 in 9 years and am now a Sergeant Major with 23 yrs of service. The Army paid for 2/3rds of my Masters Degree, as well as all the Microsoft certifications and sending me to Johnson and Wales Culinary Institue for a year of training. I've seen the hot zones as well as parts of the world I otherwise would have never seen(am an air force brat as well).
Again the choice is yours. I can only wish you the best of luck in whichever branch you choose. And welcome to the best military in the world.

For what you have planned out, the Army is the better choice, far better for dealing with future issues like college. Because the Army is HUGE compared to the Marine Corps you could likely remain in service while going to school(s) as there are bases and forts all over the place, Marine Corps is pretty much situated on the coasts, naturally.

go into the army the marines as i believe all have a death wish and ask to be sent into Battle first....listen to the news all you here is a marine died more often than a soldier from the army...plus the army sounds like a better fit for your future plans i am seventeen and also looking into enlisting into one of the branches and the army is also the branch that i am looking at (maybe ill see you at basic ) good luck (its a big decision)

Wow, It depends on what you want to get out of the service. Training, college prep, deployment options, etc.

I think the Army will give you more options for self improvement.

But remember, once you swear that oath. Your desires and goals will become secondary to the need of the service... albeit temporarily.

Despite what one poster wrote, all the services have the same benefits.

If you need help deciding between the Marines and the Army, then you should join the Army.

Army all the way. Marine boot camp is to hard and Army has more benefits.

Word of caution: get it in writing what sort of training and job they promise you.

Marines are harder but, also a little more fun I'd say.
Army does have better programs for alot of stuff including collage

Whichever way you go: be safe and be prepared
Uhhrah! Hooah!

Depends. If you want training in electronics, navy is number one. Of the two you named, marines- tougher, but more benefits.
