I've done the same thing, myself ;-) I probably do it once or twice a year just to start over ;-) but I always have short hair anyway. I cut my hair with a shear all over to about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. It will grow in healthy. I wouldn't go totally bald, but leave at least 1/2 inch and maybe a little bang - very little.
It will be different but adjust your make-up and earrings and you'll done fine. Hair grows about 1/2 inch a month.
When your hair grows back in, you won't have a new "set" of hair but the hair growing will be healthy.

There is no such thing as a "new set" of hair. Notice the hair closest to your scalp is healthy? That's what will be growing out of your head. The damaged stuff you cut off will be gone for good, but if you treat the new hair the same way you did before, it will end up damaged again. Think of how much time that hair has been on your head, and all it's gone through - whether it be chemical or mechanical... that's how hair ends up being damaged. You can talk to a professional about doing serious deep conditioners and reconstructors to get your hair healthy again

You shouldn't have to shave it. If your hair's damaged it's probably the ends from too much coloring and styling. Just go and get a couple inches cut off and one a week or so when you take a shower leave the conditioner in for 10 minutes or so. Pantene Pro-V has some new stuff that's supposed to reverse the damage on your hair. I haven't tried it but it looks cool, If you still want to shave your head your new hair won't be damaged.

Restart hair is common.
Talk to a stylist. I did it myself last year. This is can happen to anyone, this is proof. A pro stylist, was not paying attention to me color process and...well.......my story.
My dark -very long red hair when to my waistline. I went to get it highlighted and she FRIED it and it broke off at the root 1/2", so I looked like a creature from Fraggle Rock! So I had to chop off my hair. I got a Razer cut and it was wild looking and very "wash and go"- Very Susan Powter looking.
That was April of last year, for two months no color added, oh that was kinda scary, thank god I was out of town a lot and it was Baseball season.
So July through October- I did not color it with Permanet colors, only used Semi Perm that easily faded and needed to be touchedup every 3-4 weeks and my hair was great and healthy.
I am back to my orginal color and it looks very much like my pix on the advatar. I would never recommend a clean shave. It crushes your heart. Your hair is a huge part of you.
Talk to a stylist and tell them the truth, Wack it off 2" at a time or just wear it real short all summer. Hair grows real fast in summertime, but not right now....its too cold., SO if you want to cut it short, do it late March and that way it will be great for the Fall and Christmas this year.

no, it won't be the same old hair. think about it, when u colour/rebond/perm your hair and your hair starts to grow it will be your original hair color/type - the one you're born with.
if your hair is really that damaged you can shave it ALL off or cut off only the damaged hair and let it grow back. it'lll grow back, and it won't be damaged =)

It should grow out all "fresh" I cut my super bleached hair off and it grew back all soft and not dry and brittle like my dyed hair.

Why the hell would you shave your head for? If you're a girl, keep your hair. Please don't end up like Britney Spears.
