I've noticed in several recipes and such where they insist that you use fresh parmesan as it tastes better and that if you use powdered, it will ruin the food. Personally I have never liked the taste of fresh parmesan but I like the powdered. Does it really make that much difference what kind a person uses or is the recipe creator simply a food snob who won't accept anything other than what they think is Grade A ingredients?

Yes! Powdered Parmesan is not actually Parmesan cheese. It's made of chemicals and dehydrated milk, which is why the spelling of Parmesan is different. It's not a matter of Grade A ingredients or being a food snob, it's just the difference between eating something that is naturally made and something that is a synthetic. If you like powdered, keep eating it, no one can force you to make the change.
