Thank you for your positive attitude!! And of course, fighting for our country.
My ex-husband was deployed alot, He had a portable DVD player, and he always had me send movies, candy, and lots and lots of CHAP-STICK and Q-TIPS!
I think you can get a general list in your deployment package. Along with some helpful check-lists on what to do before you deploy. Ask your SGT.
Thanks again for your service in the military!
P.S. My Ex always kicked himself for never bringing a video camera. He used disposable cameras for a little while, until they turned out crappy pics. So bring a digital camera or a video camera. You are in a situation of a lifetime, make sure you capture it!

My husband is getting ready to deploy soon, his 4th deployment since 2002, 2nd time to Iraq. I feel qualified to speak on his behalf. For boy toys, this time he has a PSP. If you dont have one, a portable DVD player and gameboy would be very beneficial. Depending on your MOS, you may have alot of wait time. My husband is an 88M and does. You may be able to find some toys when you get there from the soldiers you replace....many dont want to bring a bunch of stuff home so they leave it for the next group. My husband enjoyed a microwave, tv, a dvd player, and movies last time. Of course he didnt want to bring it home, so he paid it forward.

Also, pictures from home. Parents, spouse, kids. Small enough to take with you when you go out.

Pack some mission munchies just in case you have to skip mealtime and not in the mood for yet another MRE.

Good luck to you!

I know I send my husband Granola Bars, Soap, not that much like chap stick because you get those in care packages, I would say bring a laptop if you are in a place that you can use it, I wouldn't bring a lot of techy things because there is theft there like everywhere else. Books if you like to read, Ipod is great, my hubby loves his, he has a baseball glove because they play, but remember you can only take so much with you on the plane, you have to have the rest sent to you. Look around your room and what do you use every day? if you use something all the time then take it, minus the TV, EVEN though there are tvs over there and they watch movies, and remember that there is a PX on base and vendors so if you forget anything you can buy it there.

I assume you're being deployed to Iraq. I've heard a lot of soldiers wished they had the old school roll-on deodorant. The newer gels and dry sticks become messy and don't hold up as well.

How are you doing battle? It can vary, it is up to your company commander. He or she will inform you on what you can and can not bring. I was able to get a cell phone over there, I'm infantry so not as much down time, but some of my other battles in different mos had their PSP and other electronics, you will get the memo, good luck out there battle, ill be there next month also!

Bring a PSP or a laptop. Don't pack a whole bunch of toiletries; you tend to get that stuff in care packages. If you're coming to Iraq, bring extra t-shirts and socks to last through Kuwait.

1-Baby wipes! Lots of them!!!!!!!!!! You'll know what I mean when you get there.
2-Reading material. A good book or some of your favorite magazines. You can read them and then trade with other guys for theirs.
3-Hard candy...sucking on these babys helps pass the time.
4-E-mail addresses. For those rare times when you can communicate with friends and family.
5-Courage....Oh woops. Looks like you've already got plenty of that!

God bless and keep you safe, bro.

Remembering that the military is full of "hurry up and wait". You need packable recreation.

Gameboy
iPod with back up power
Books
portable DVD player and Netfix account

When you get there you may find that your unit has an array of recreational access.

Have people pack food for you in "goody boxes" that will keep. M&Ms, Instant coa-coa and coffee (international coffee). pringles potato chips. canned foods if you like any.

I have passed the standard on to the younger generation.... thanks for taking up the fight.

I heard things like trail mix for snacking, music (various cds will make you popular amongst your fellow soldiers/marines, etc)...

I've never in the service, but I try to support the troops by sending whatever I can to make their job a little easier...

Take care, be safe by being aware of where you are and your surroundings... Thank you for your willingness to serve your country...
