frying fries. baking chicken pieces. and no you don't need one. If you are trying to get just the basic equipment, get a 8 x 8" pan which you can use for the above, and for cookies, just need to do smaller batches.

Absolutely. You will use it to put pot pies or frozen dinners on to cook in the oven so that if they overflow they will not make a mess in the oven.......you will use them to put oven bake french fries on.....you will use it to put french bread pizzas on.....there are a ton of uses.

you can use any cookie sheet but you should get one of those silcone sheets that go on top you can get them at target and so on..it makes them so much better

sometimes i use it as a lid when cooking in my super large frying pan.

you can use it for biscuts, break, there are many things you can use for it.....sometimes i use them to make enchiladas on....a person probably doesn't need one but they are very handy...i would suggest having one:)
