Hi I was wondering if there is any shortcut(avoiding the horrendous 405 freeway) from the city of Hawthorne(near the southbay) to UCLA? It about 16.7 miles away from UCLA, but the traffic makes it so bad.

I used the 405 to culver city by LA cienga exit, but traffic is still horrible in the city, is there a 405 freeway in the city? I can't find it.

Traffic is pretty bad no matter where you go, but depending on the day, Sawtelle is a lot better than 405 or Sepulveda. I used to take La Cienega from LAX area all the way to Fairfax, take Fairfax to Beverly, take Beverly to SM, than go through the residential area of Beverly Hills (north of SM blvd), pop out on Wilshiere, take that to UCLA (again, pop back into the residential area N of Wilshire before you hit Westwood boulevard to really avoid traffic). But all in all, sitting on 405 may be just as quick as taking these little side street. besides, you can study in traffic :) Good luck!
