I have problems with grinding my teeth, and one molar in the back of my mouth had slightly chipped. I just recently got a crown on it but I feel a lot of sensitivity and sometimes pain when I drink cold liquids.. Is this normal? Such as post crown pain.. or should I seek my dentist about this pain?

it is normal. because the crown has been placed onto the remaints of your real tooth it naturally presses down onto it creating a preassure, which will eventually go away because with time it will be pushed as far as it can go and it will no longer have any room to slide down and pressure. Also it might be that when the dentist was putting it on some air got in between your tooth and your crown and then it is NOT normal , but then you would know bc it would hurt A LOT. so if that is the case then you need it looked at. but if it only hurts a little and is slightly sensitive then it is normal

grinding and clinching is often caused by mercury poisoning from amalgam fillings. so, make sure you don't have any. all fillings that are not white, are half mercury.

sometimes crowns will hurt for a while, but usually this is due to the bite not being adjusted correctly. go to the dentist and make sure your bite is correct.

get a nightguard, either from wal*mart pharmacy or have the dentist make you one.

it is also possible that the crown is not fitting well. in that case, you may need the dentist to redo it. you may want to get a second opinion at another dentist.

another option may be to take off the crown and put on a temporary one with medicated cement until the sensitivity goes away.

metals in crowns can conduct heat and cold, so sometimes you just cannot put heat and cold on them too long. make sure you do not have a crown that contains nickel, as it is toxic. most crowns are porcelain over metal (which has nickel in it) unless you specially order it over gold.

Seek a dentist. It's not as if I'll cost you a fortune.
