symptom = bloodshot eyes.

it doesn't have to hurt. I have had pink eye several times in my life. Depends on what kind you get. I have had bacterial and viral (adenovirus). The drops only help if you have bacterial conjuctivitis (pink eye) the conjucta is the white of your eye and -itis means "inflammation of" Unless the doctor has the lab do an eye swab, it is difficult to tell what kind you have. Wash your hands thoroughly and try not to touch your eye. If your eye gets crusty (especially while you sleep), you probably have pink eye. I have had it where it didn't hurt at all, and also where it stings and itches and hurts really badly, so really the only way to know is a culture. Just go to the eye doctor (or regular doctor). You will probably get antibiotic drops (they probably wont' do lab work to see if it is viral). Use them and don't touch your eye. It can effect one eye or both. You can spread it very easily so wash your hands often. Good luck!

Homeopathically, there are a number of acute remedies designed to treat conjunctivitis. These include Pulsatilla (windflower, Pulsatilla nigricans), Belladonna, and eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis). Eye drops, prepared with homeopathic remedies and/or herbs, can be a good substitute for pharmaceutical eye drops. Eye washes can also be made. Herbal eyewashes made with eyebright (1 tsp. dried herb steeped in 1 pint of boiling water) or chamomile (Matricaria recutita; 2-3 tsp. in 1 pint of boiling water) may be helpful. Eyewashes should be strained and cooled before use, and close attention should be paid to make sure that any solution put into the eye is sterile. Other simple home remedies may help relieve the discomfort associated with conjunctivitis. A boric acid eyewash can be used to clean and soothe the eyes. A warm compress applied to the eyes for five to 10 minutes three times a day can help relieve the discomfort of bacterial and viral conjunctivitis. A cool compress or cool, damp tea bags placed on the eyes can ease the discomfort of allergic conjunctivitis

pink eye also know as Conjunctivitis, some of its common symptoms are:
Redness, itching, and swelling of the lids .The consistency of the discharge may vary from watery to pus depending on the specific cause of the conjunctivitis. Apart from the visual disturbance due to the discharge, there should be no significant impairment of the vision.

For fatigue or eyestrain, try to rest your eyes.
Cool compresses applied to the eye may help reduce itching and swelling.
Do not use eye makeup or wear contact lenses until the infection has cleared.

Inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eye (the covering). Symptoms are a red eye, drainage, itching/irritation, and swelling of the area around the eye. If it is really bad your eye can swell shut. It is spread by person to person contact. So if you touch your eye you need to wash your hands right away so you dont spread it to the other eye or someone else. You also need antibiotic drops to get rid of it and prevent permanent eye damage.

Very itchy and red eye, starts slowly then turns bad fast, eye turns really red and bloodshot. Very contagious. Use baby shampoo to wash it out several times a day. If this doesn't help see a Dr. Good luck.

Crustiness and tearing up, pinkish hue. Sometimes you might wake up with your eye sealed shut. See a doctor to be sure, and don't rub because it's very contagious.
