1. shut down your computer
2. put in the installation cd for either windows version
3. when you start the installation it will ask you where to install windows, and you will choose to delete the current partition
4. you will have to go through several confirmation steps to confirm that you want to completely erase your hard drive
5. create a new partition and install windows on that partition and you are done!
BEFORE YOU START, MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP ALL YOUR DATA AND VERIFY THAT IT BACKED UP SUCCESSFULLY ON ANOTHER COMPUTER!!!

If you go into Control Panel, you may find a "Uninstall Windows XP" under Add/Remove programs, if you upgraded from 2000 to XP.
Ideally, put the 2000 CD in your computer and boot it up. The 2000 CD is bootable and will start the install process automatically. If you really want a fresh install, I suggest you 'delete the partition' and recreate it when you install 2000.
Not for the faint hearted.. :) Get all your device drivers and burn them to a CD (or flash drive) before you start.. Can't get on the Internet, if you can't get your modem or network adapter running.

While you are at it, do a dual boot with either UBUNTU or XUBUNTU. They are free, reliable and up to date operating systems. Once you have one installed you gain access to thousands of free programs.
Remember to back up your data before making changes to your computer.
