If the people were born blind, they have no visual imagery; the dreams consist of impressions from the other senses -- touch, hearing, smell, and taste. If the people were sighted and then became blind, their dreams contain visual imagery -- but these visual dreams might cease to occur eventually

Of course. In fact, the brain needs REM sleep to function. Blind people will dream of sounds and sensations. Generally those who dream with imagery are those who initially had sight and then lost it at a later age.

Oh my I have always wondered this ... but I don't have any blind friends and I would feel funny walking up and asking random blind people on the street....
I always thought that they dream in what they think the thing looks like..
they take in so much by sound, smell and touch... and what other people tell them... so I wonder if when they dream of a cow... they see it in their head as they have heard it described...
I dunno it sounds silly.... but I can't wait to see what people write here..

They still have imagination and it may not be the same without eyesight but they must have some sort of images in their minds. So dreams are just internal images stored sub-consciously. Whatever they experience in life can effect the dreams.

If they've never seen, then they probably dream fine in sounds, feel, and maybe smell in a sense? Those that used to see probably love still seeing in their dreams...
