Yes, adultery is a sin also. There is probably not as much "hoopla" made over it as homosexuality because christians commit it much more than they commit homosexuality. (sorry, fellow christians-its the truth)....theBerean

Yes, they are almost certainly "equals" as sins and have similar powers to affect society and the family.
Deep down, I think we all believe that we are as "good" as we possibly can be, -- given this, that and the other thing --- and COMPARED to this, that and the other thing...
So there is more hoopla over homosexuality because most of us are much less tempted by homosexual acts and much more likely to be tempted by adulterous acts. Consequently, it's much easier and more convenient to dwell upon the evil of homosexuality, and at the same time, set ourselves as safely apart from such a thing.
Also, there is the argument about "natural" v. "unnatural"; and finally, infidelity has been universally acknowledged and almost accepted as "understandable" for a very long time, and this is not true for homosexual activity.

Of course adultery damages the family structure. It breaks up homes and causes kids to become emotionally damaged because of the insecurity the loss of a parent creates.
The sin of homosexual sex is not greater then the sin of adulterous sex. The problem with homosexuality and the "hoopla over homosexuality" is that it's not adulterers who are trying to change society and the law so that they can pretend to themselves that their sin is not an offense against society and God. It's not adulterers who are trying to force Christianity to accept them as Christians even though they refuse to repent of their sin and turn from it. It's not adulterers who are trying to convince everyone that they are their sex life and their sex life is the definition of who they are and how they should be recognized by society, the law, and Christianity. It's not adulterers who are willing to destroy culture, society, and faith so they don't have to deal with the ramifications of their "lifestyle".
The "hoopla" isn't over homosexuality. It's over the homosexuals who are so self absorbed and narcissistic that they are willing to abrogate the traditions of humanity from the beginning of time to now to serve their own ends.
Adulterers are certainly doing damage to the family structure, but they are doing their damage one family at a time. Homosexuals are trying to destroy the foundation upon which people have built their families from the time families began.

Yes, adultery is a sin and so is homosexuality ... in fact they both affect not only the soul, but the mind and body as well.
The only reason I can see why homosexuality has more "hoopla" is because they are the only ones flaunting their sin. You don't see adulterers demanding equality or marching in a parade, wearing their own special colors and such. You don't see gamblers and cheaters and liars and whatever other sin there is flaunted as you do with homosexuality.

BIG EDIT:
"Christians, isn't adultery as big a sin as homosexuality?"
It's all sin. Not matter how sever some people might think it is, all is evidence that we are not perfect-- which is God's standard. So I like to say that being straight is not a prerequisit to being saved. IF we trust in God through the savior that he provided, we are saved.
"If so, why is there more hoopla over homosexuality "
Easy, In my opinion, homosexuality is one of the most preached against sins of man. Many Christians emulate the speech that eminates from their pastor. And their preachers are some of the most poorly educated people on the planet. Some Christians only need a charisma an remedial Biblical knowledge-- the emphasis being spiritual charisma rather than scholarly deductions.
"Do adulterers damage society and the family structure?"
Yes. They can and do. I've been a victim of that myself. But I would say that this question is not necessarily in focus with the other questions that you just asked. Gay people tend to disturb the family's social fabric merely because they are looked upon as social freaks. It's not really typical to believe that they harmed anybody.

I agree with the above comments that sin is sin.
The hoopla over homosexuality is the agenda to present it as natural and therefore release accountability. We all agree that adultery will have adverse impact on the family. Wives or husbands get hurt and so do children. But we don't agree on the impact of homosexuality on the family. The homosexual community would have us believe there is none.

Yes, it is all sin. Most adulterers, however, try to keep their infidelity a secret. Most (not all) homosexuals push it into every-ones face constantly, and so it is more widely talked about. Both heinous.
Yes, adulterers damage the family structure and therefore, society.

Same same. Just that homosexuality is more popular these days. Adultery does do a lot of damage and a good point. Adultery is very closet oriented but the effects are just as blaring.

I am a Christian and I agree no sin is bigger than any other sin. We are to love the sinner and hate the sin. I think the reason a bigger deal is made of homosexuals is the fact that most homosexuals don't think what they are doing is wrong and most don't believe in God. Most adulterers know what they are doing is wrong, double standard? Yeah probably, but you asked why and that's why.
