So for the last week and a half I have had this strange knot in my throat. Much like when you feel lik crying but you are holding back. I recall feeling this once before when I was under extreme stress and anxiety. I don't feel that stressed out now but could I be and just not recognizing it? I am a singer, and since this has happened, I haven't been singing because it is uncomfortable. I'm able to drink, breathe, eat, swallow and no discomfort but most of the time I feel like I have this constant knot in my throat. Is this a normal response to stress? Has anyone else every experienced this and when will it stop?

Yes...I would love some answers for us as well. As I stated earlier, I can eat, drink and swallow just fine...no problems there...just this constant knot feeling as if I'll cry. I hate it.

You would be wise to get a referral to an ENT.

Get your doctor to check your thyroid. There is a very common condition which causes a bump or knot in the front of the throat where the thyroid gland is that is called a goiter. It runs in families, thyroid problems do and they are different for each family member. Very common in the mid states where ancestors didn't get enough iodine in their diets because of no ocean fish. Now they put it in salt. We still see these disorders, I have had it for many yrs, had surgery. my mom had it. And so on. So, get it checked please. They will examine you and then decide if they need to do anything else. The funny thing is it comes and goes for yrs. sometimes so you don't know you have it for a long time. I wish you luck whatever it is, just get it checked.

I get that knot in my throat sometimes when I get extremely stressed. It scares me sometimes as I feel as if I almost can't breathe. But it usually goes away. I don't know what causes it, but I would love to find some more answers for us.

This is called globus hystericus. It happens when you are under extreme stress and anxiety. It is very common. Going to see your doctor may help. Failing that, biofeedback, yoga, exercise, or doing anything relaxing like taking deep breaths before stressful events may help.

It could be stress. It could be some lymph nodes swelled, due to a cold , or infection of some kind. It could be sinus problems,, if it persists , please see your doctor. God "Bless"
