Assuming that when you turn the key your volt meter is about 12 or 14 and charging the battery does nothing. thne its not your alternator or battery. My first thought is that its our ignition switch. because if your radio doesnt light up and it also doesnt start that is the only way that the two would be connected.
Good Luck!

If the radio shuts off when the key is in the start position, that is normal. If it's an automatic transmission, put the selector in neutral and try to start it. With your right hand holding the key to start, move the selector slightly back and forth between "r" and "d". If it starts, you will need to adjust or replace your safety neutral switch on the transmission. If it's a manual transmission, make sure your floor mat hasn't bunched up under your clutch pedal. There is a cut out switch on the pedal that stops the engine from turning over unless the clutch pedal is right to the floor. Try it out and let me know.

Your ignition may not be in-tact.
try jumping your solenoid. It's on the passenger side fire-wall.
If it tries to start, then the linkage inside the column is probably broken.

Try it.
