The doctrine of the Trinity is the result of continuous exploration by the church of the biblical data, thrashed out in debate and treatises, eventually formulated at the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD in a way they believe is consistent with the biblical witness, and further refined in later councils and writings.

The Britannica Encyclopedia's Trinity article states: "Neither the word Trinity nor the explicit doctrine appears in the New Testament, nor did Jesus and his followers intend to contradict the Shema in the Old Testament: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord” (Deuteronomy 6:4)."

It is an invention of early Christian church fathers, such as Tertullian.

The scriptural support for the doctrine is implicit at best.

The scripture contradicts the doctrine, such as when Jesus states that the Father is greater than he is.

It is paradoxical and therefore not in line with reason.

It reflects the influence of pagan religions, some of which have divine triads of their own.

It does not follow the strict monotheism found in Judaism and the Old Testament, of which Jesus claimed to have fulfilled.

The doctrine relies almost entirely on non-Biblical terminology.

Hey Palmar.

Good that you don't as it is not a real Bible teaching! The word Trinity isn't even in the Bible.

Do some research on triune god of history and you will find that they existed long before the recent teachings that claim to be Christian.

Here are a few scriptures for you:

Jesus said:
(John 14:28) . . .If YOU loved me, YOU would rejoice that I am going my way to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.

(John 20:17) Jesus said to her: “Stop clinging to me. For I have not yet ascended to the Father. But be on your way to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and YOUR Father and to my God and YOUR God.’”

(1 Corinthians 11:3) But I want YOU to know that the head of every man is the Christ; in turn the head of a woman is the man; in turn the head of the Christ is God.

(Philippians 2:6) who, although he was existing in God’s form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God.

I could go on and on here...

Look up the defenition of Father and then Son in the dictionary, that will help.

Zip me an email if you want to discuss this further?

Mike

I know what you mean but let me put it this way. Lets say the Son(Jesus), the Father, and the Holy Spirit were equal to a substance like water. Water has three characteristics liquid, gas, and solid they are all different but still the very same substance water just like the Son, the Father and the Holy Spirit are equal to one.Hope this helps. God Bless

the beginning of understanding comes from an understanding of infinity. God is everywhere - around us through us, in us over us under us between us over there out there in here etc...

It's just about impossible to grasp the hugeness of infinity.
God is outside of time and space as we know it. His presence is all encompassing. His persona is distinct and perfect. And we understand Him to be Father, Son and Holy Spirit - 3 distinct persona but always in harmony in and of themselves. There actually isn't even words to describe the 3 in 1. We only understan Father, Son and Holy Spirit - and that's what makes it so difficult for most of us to grasp how he can be 3 yet only 1.

Blessings.

Think of the trinity like you would think of chemistry. Meaning that there is one element that can represent three types of substances.

This one element (The Trinity) is "Water".

Water, when frozen is Ice (God)

Water, when "normal" is...Water (Jesus)

Water, under intense heat creates steam (The Holy Spirit)

All three of these substances are still H20, but they're in three different forms.

Hope this helps.

God is triune in nature. God the father, God the son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Its not something necessarily meant to be understood. It just is. Jesus is eternally begotten of the father.

The Son submits in everything to the father and the Holy spirit submits in everything to the father and the son.

Its seen throughout scripture. Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen the father. etc.

It's similar but not the same as us having three entities. One is the mind, one is the body and one is the soul. Three completely separate entities all dwelling within the same mass. Like I said, similar but nowhere near the same.

Like my pastor said, there are somethings that are too complex to understand completely. Kind of like God always being there. how did He get there? It's just one more thing I'll have to ask Him when I get there.
