Exodus 29:20
Read it for yourself if you don't believe me.

You say God never changes, but does he really still do wacky stuff like that? If so, where?

Either he changes or he doesn't. C'mon church people, help me out on this.

And why was he even doing that wacky stuff then? What was the big idea?

The ears speak of hearing.
The thumbs speak of doing.
The big toes speak of going.
The language is symbolic. Together with the blood was the anointing oil.
The blood speaks of atonement. The oil speaks of the Holy Spirit.
The lesson was that in all their hearing and doing and going - all the activity of the priest of God was to be done in a considered recognition of atonement of God and a sensitivity to His Holy Spirit.

But as for you: "But a natural (soulish - spiritually dead) man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually evaluated." (I Corinthians 2:14)

Wave offerings
In the wave offerings the priest evidently put his hands under the hands of the worshiper, who was holding to the sacrifice presented, and waved them to and fro; or the thing offered was waved by the priest himself. Lev 23:11a

It seems that Moses as mediator of the Law Covenant, did this for Aaron and his sons when consecrating them to the priesthood. Lev 8:28,29

Since Christ poured out his blood for all of mankind the Law Covenant was fulfilled. We are not under the old law. We have no need of priests or animal sacrifices.
Jesus gave us 2 laws to live by. Luke 10:27 Love Jehovah with everything you have and love your neighbor as yourself.
This action represented a presenting of the sacrificial things to Jehovah. Certain wave offerings went to the priests as their portion. Ex 29:27

To answer your question: God did this to anoint them into the priesthood.
And no there are no more animal sacrifices.
The sacrifice we make now is teaching people about Jehovah and following Christ example. And doing as Jesus commissioned us and make disciples

If you don't understand then there are hundreds of other wacky things god did that you won't be able to understand.

No, he doesn't do that stuff anymore. And back then he was doing it purely for entertainment purposes, he loved to see what all he could make them do and then he would laugh in his sleeve.

He doesn't do it now, and we don't know what he does, and we have not even heard from him since the time of the prophet Malachi.

Animal sacrifices. That's what it's talking about and it's a ceremony type thing going on.

21 "Then you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments and on his sons and on his sons' garments with him; so he and his garments shall be consecrated, as well as his sons and his sons' garments with him. 22 "You shall also take the fat from the ram and the fat tail, and the fat that covers the entrails and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them and the right thigh (for it is a ram of ordination ), 23 and one cake of bread and one cake of bread mixed with oil and one wafer from the basket of unleavened bread which is set before the LORD; 24 and you shall put all these in the hands of Aaron and in the hands of his sons, and shall wave them as a wave offering before the LORD. 25 "You shall take them from their hands, and offer them up in smoke on the altar on the burnt offering for a soothing aroma before the LORD; it is an offering by fire to the LORD. 26 "Then you shall take the breast of Aaron's ram of ordination, and wave it as a wave offering before the LORD; and it shall be your portion. 27 "You shall consecrate the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering which was waved and which was offered from the ram of ordination, from the one which was for Aaron and from the one which was for his sons. 28 "It shall be for Aaron and his sons as their portion forever from the sons of Israel, for it is a heave offering; and it shall be a heave offering from the sons of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, even their heave offering to the LORD.
