Islamic law regulates all aspects of life both public and private and defines a strict norm which all are required to follow. This code was established before the 19th century and accepts slavery, the subordinate position of women and the restriction of other beliefs as being socially required. It also condemns homosexuality and any form of real freedom of speech. Since these laws are immutable they fix society in a pre 19th century mode. Is this a restriction on human rights or a definition of what rights a human should have and how they should be applied universally?

You missed the fact that legally it creates a sub class (of non believers) that don't have the same legal rights in a court of law as Muslim believers.

This is just a simple reply...

1. Islam came and ended slavery in a very strategic way, buy having people free a slave as a sign of repenting.

I mean come on, if a man slapped a slave he HAD to free the slave as a sign of repenting.

2. Women are garenteed a very luxurous life in Islam.

She is garenteed a living in return of being a good wife. And no, it's not "ok" for a man to beat his wife.

3. I won't make a comment on homosexuality, it's something I don't get too far with.

Wake up, dear...

The world is always in need of laws, and the laws in Islam is only for the benifit of mankind.

Peace.

The only law must be based on a consensus of the people. Any thing else is a violation of human rights

Do you love your freedom? Oh course the Sharia would posed a seal problem to human rights. To the people that live under it, it might not seem like much of a problem but to the rest of us, it does. Think about the case of the woman that is raped, she has to provide 4 males eyewitnesses or else she just committed adultery and hence jail time. And make sure that you say anything bad a Mohammad, because that is enough to kill you. They want to call Islam the religion of peace, so far it has been nothing war with them.

How is this different than fundemental christianity's history? We just live in a more modern and advanced country now, as is the natural progression of religion, eventually something will come along and replace these religions and will go back through all the violent phases before being adopted by a more civilized culture where it will be practiced to a more peaceful extent...

You need to do a little research...Some of the richest countries in the world and most developed and technological are run under Shar'ia law. The world would probably be a better place if it was run under Shar'ia law.
