This may seem like a weird question, but so be it. I have never tasted coffee in my entire life. Not even one drop. Seems kinda strange, I know. But now I am completely ignorant, and totally curious about it. So my question is, where do I begin? Any pointers as to where I should start? Just for the record, I tend to prefer sweet things. Thanks

coffee is kinda bitter, personally I can't stand the stuff. when I end up at a coffee shop with friends I always just get a large orange peakoe tea, tastes much nicer. Go to the coffee place that's most convenient for you, or where your friends go and just order there regular coffee. It's better then going to some expensive coffee place unless your made of money. you might not like it at all, and I think the people who drink coffee with 3-5 packs of sugar in it just to say they drink it are kind of silly (I don know some people like that)
Flavored coffee's will probably appeal more to you then just the regular stuff if you like sweet things.

A Good medium roast Colombian coffee is good to start with. If you have it black you may find it quite bitter. Add a bit of creme (at least 10%), it will take the edge off. Depending on the size of the cup, 1 to 2 packets of sugar should be enough to sweeten it.

I don't recommend instant coffee, powdered coffee whitener, or even putting milk in it.

Try something like a caramel macciatto from Starbucks. Or better yet, a frappacino. Even my friends who hate coffee like those - they're sweet and icy. Get something with a flavour you think you'd enjoy (caramel, mocha...)

You could always try going with regular coffee and adding cream and sugar to taste.

Don’t go for starbucks because it will strong for you since you are a beginner. Start with a cappuccino and work your way to irish coffee, and starbucks coffee latte. I drink about 3 cups a day

Start with a cup of milk, and add just a little coffee, so that there's really more milk than coffee...Gradually increase the amount you add until you're where you like the taste.

Don't do Starbucks... Make it yourself. Alton Brown has a very intensive/extensive process for great coffee and guess what? Its so much better than Starbucks.

just start out with regular ground coffee, add some sugar and creamer, then you can try different flavors later, or try going to java Dave's or Starbucks, it costs alittle more but you could try some different types.....enjoy
