She's been to the vet a lot & she (the vet) doesn't think the cat is seriously ill. She thinks it may be irritable bowel syndrome. Right now kitty is on Hills ID prescription food. She seems better on this food, but they say it should only be fed short term & she's been on it 3 mos. Also, it contains a lot of bad ingredient including corn gluten & chicken bi-products YUK :( My vet doesn't seem at all knowledgeable about food. I'm planning on going to a holistic vet, but wanted to get input from members who feed the raw food diet. Thanks!

Try Eukenuba Response LB canned food. A freind of mine with a cat that had chronic diarrhea for 4 years tried everything - food and medication. Then she switched the cat food to Eukenuba Resonse LB and it cured the problem. Amazing. You may want to see if this works for your kitty.

It can depend on the individual cat. But usually most vets will recommend keeping a healthy dry food available, and wet food offered once or twice a day max,in the right proportion for the cat.

Raw food would be hard to digest. Chicken is the easiest food for a cat to digest. I suggest you prepare some chicken poached in broth for her. That way you will avoid additives and anything that could upset her stomach. Some poached white fish would probably be good for her, too.

I have 7 dogs and 4 cats...all of my animals are on the "raw" diet. It might take a little adjusting to get them used to it...but all my pets are doing great!!! Its a lot healthier because they dont eat all the yucky stuff thats in cat/dog food. And its supposed to help them live longer. We've been doing it for about 4 years now and theres no way I'd go back. It might be a lot of work sometimes, but its so worth it!

I feed my cats a raw meat diet that I prepare with a supplement powder. They also eat some canned food. I have been doing the raw food for seven years without any problems. One of my cats ate only that food for the seven years I had her. She lived to be 22 adn 1/2.

You might want to go to: www. catinfo.org to read about raw diets from a veterinarian. There are Yahoo groups you can join to ask questions and read the experience of others in doing this healthy feeding. One is: Cats-Barf. Or you can contact me if you have some questions to ask.

Also you can contact Felice at www.felineinstincts.com. She sells the supplement powder I use and is very supportive in helping her clients in switching cats to raw meat. You can also just get a brochure from her which gives a recipe and the contents of the powder.

You have to remember one thing about cats, their systems are different then most other animals. They can digest a lot of "crap", it's amazing. It's sort of awful to look at what is in cat's food, but it is all ok for the cats.
As far as raw meat for a cat, well, I don't feed it to my cat, but I certainly can't see how it could hurt a cat, they are carnivores. They are related to lions, and they eat raw meat. I would just be sure that you got raw meat that didn't have anything bad in it. It would be the same thing that we have to worry about, why we have to be sure to cook our food carefully. I'm not sure about worms and things like that.
I do think that going to a holistic vet is a fantistic idea. If the cat has problems one of the things I have heard works great for sick animals is accupuncture. I have been trying to get my cats in for getting their teeth cleaned by a vet who uses accupuncture instead of having them knocked out.

Always boil/cook it a bit to kill any bacteria.
