She suspects you are bipolar because of your response to the antidepressants. sleeping too much is a bipolar type depression, too, so is eating a lot. (Seasonal affective disorder will do that too). It is a very good idea to be seen by a specialist, this is beyond a family doctor's expertise. That's why she referred you (good for her!!) If you are bipolar, you will want to be treated for it-some researchers think that without treatment, you are getting progressive brain damage (but that's not known).

Good luck!!

You are describing a massive case of anxiety.
Look back on your recent life (the last 3 years or so).
Have you had doctors try and diagnose these as physical problems? Heart attack, stroke, blood pressure, blood sugar, etc.?
And if so, did everything check out okay?
Anxiety works slowly, by affecting us days or weeks after an anxious event (someone yelling at you at work, someone telling rumors about you and you're powerless to stop them, etc.)
Then the anxious moments become more and more frequent and often times manifest themselves in physical ways.
There is great medication available; Efexor has worked for many people and does not create binge eating like some anxiety meds will.
Remember, if you feel you are having an anxiety attack, tell yourself that that is all that it is. It can't give you a heart attack, you won't stop breathing, and physically you are fine.
Understanding that anxiety starts with mental stresses is the first step in overcoming the fear associated with the physical side affects.

LIve the question...you could simply not eat enough calcium or have hormone imbalance...see source. Labeling gets you too much in a box and anti depressants have severe side effects. Try to be active and eat well and do thinks you like make a list of things you like to do daily...
5 HTP and Gaba are also good alternatives for medications...just do not mix them with medications as this can have negative effects. Be aware of medications anyway. A pastor who comes in the ED often, once asked me this question: Did you ever see somebody on medication and heal (he was speaking about anti depression/ anti anxiety and bipolar medications. This boggled my mind....I could not find a person....
Depression is a phase when it is when you see parts of yourself, the world you do not like. You can not accept these realizations. Medications keep you quiet and subdued. Do not forget that the next step is anger and needs to get out before the next step of anticipation, acceptation and goon with your live. Medication might be a bridge for a while but not for ever...
With anxiety something has happened in your past and if you start to go into the anxiety mood is because something triggered this awful memory. You can not or do not want to go to this experience s it is too painful. So what do you do go in panic and nowadays it is called a panic attack.

To get to the origin of your depression or anxiety you can use tools. Tool like EFT (emotional freedom technique) and EMDR (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing). What caused the anxiety...what is behind your anxiety? You can get there and be more what you really are. Enjoy every moment.

You sound a lot like I did a while back. There is a good chance you are bipolar. One of the biggest indicators is how you reacted to the anti-depressant. Anti-depressants can make a bipolar person manic. You should definitely go see a professional and just see what they say.

More depression than bipolar. If you were seriously bipolar you would have irrational violent behavior and violent mood swings. Your just SEVERELY depressed. I suggest you get a second opinion.

I would most definitely go and seek counsel~so that you can get to the bottom of it all and get the help you need(you are worth it) and you deserve not to have to live this way.
