My 3 yr old son has had a small lump on his spine since i can remember, im not even sure its a lump, it looks more like one of his vertabrae sticks out further than the others, its not painful to him. Its about 3/4 of the way down his back, i had a dr look at it about a yr ago and they didnt really pay it much attention, said he was fine. No Xrays or anything done...but now it seems to be getting more noticable, im not stupid, i plan to take him to his dr, im just trying to see if any other parents or medical professionals have seen anything like this and have any ideas as to if its normal or not, and if not what it could be...thanks

I would suggest taking him to a reputable chiropractor that adjusts children. They look at spines all day long and could probably tell you if it is out of the ordinary. Your pediatrician doesn't look at spines as often. The chiropractor would tell you if it seems like it will cause problems as he grows or if it is normal or not.
An adjustment at the chiropractor will cost you about $30-$40. You may even find a chiropractor who gives a free consultation. Ask around to your friends and neighbors if they know a chiropractor they trust. Also, don't let this wait. Trust your instincts to have it checked out. And, if the chiropractor suggests an X-ray, it will cost about $60 per X-ray. They usually take two (side and front). You could probably work out a payment plan like I did ($25 a month). Good luck.

It could be calcium deposit on the vertebra, like a spur, or it could be his develpment. Whatever it is you are right it needs to be looked at. Good Luck to both of you.
