That is one thing I noticed when I was in England, was how good their social life was at their neighborhood pubs, not like the dodgy atmosphere you get at many American bars. and the people seemed more real and less "competitive?" acting. You know, nobody trying to act like they were too cool for you or being reserved acting. In England you could have people invite you to be their friend and talk with people about anything. More relaxed, not such loud music like in American bars.
Why do you think America is unable to have the same so much? I think our life is to commercialized and less friendly than people over there.

Maybe it's got something to do with us brits being humble and reserved. Americans in general seem to be bombarded from an early age with all that "America is great", "You are great", Everything you do is great", "Great job" kind of pre programming. So when you talk to people it's actually quite difficult for you to tolerate other peoples views or accept others may be better in certain areas. Whereas the British are always brought up to be polite, accept critisism, be less judgemental and more reserved. because of this any relationship is going to be easier going and smoother with a brit.

I think people in the UK generally go to the pub to chill out and meet old friends and make new ones in a nice easy going atmosphere
There are no need for Airs and graces
You are away from all the cares of the world for a few hours.
I have never been to the States and can only get an impression of what American bars are like (probably a false one) from films.
And they come over as very sterile places where people go to drink.
I have met many American soldiers during my time in the military.
They tended to come across as brash abrasive characters, in an "Only my opinion counts". sort of way, and fairly unapproachable.
I don't think it's so much that the pubs are different; it's more a case of why you go there.

Most of the American women I've met in England seem to fit the stereo type of being loud ,brash and materialistic.
Still I can't believe that would apply to all American women as it's a big place with diverse cultures.
Maybe you need to broaden your horizons and meet more people in other venues rather than bars.

Dear Peter
Well, reason is that pub and bar is a place to have a secure place in europe.. In here... either you pick up a woman or men.. loud, dirty, no manners, or standards.. I had a experince in a place i would not get in to sit or stand up few weeks ago...? I felt that I was in the large compact trash can with individuals sit or stand up drink after drink and can not see what they drink because it is dark and easy to mix cheap beers or old half bottle wines poured with bartenders... I will say to you that... motion is second...

I think because of all the crime in America, the women are running scared and you won't even find nice American women in a bar anymore ! I do sometimes wish I had lived in Great Britiain sometimes. I understand sometimes they are jealous of us but at least they have less crime.

I think you're absolutely right. People do seem less friendly and very concerned with looks and how to act. Instead of being down to earth and honest. There's a lot of arrogant people here and very materialistic. I was born here and lived here all my life and I could see it.

It's because Americans descended from the lowest classes of British people.

Dude, there are different women in America. You should check out the West side. There's lots of diversity here in SoCal. Good Luck!

I don't know where in America you're living, but in my town, you can be friends with people and talk about anything.
