Some of those answers are just plain tupid. Others are rather accurate. Mine has been pierced for 5 years, and I STRONGLY recommend using Epsom salt and just a little hot water. It will burn, really bad, but it is such a blessing when its over. DO NOT use hydrogen peroxide, its a drying agent, not a healing agent. Neopsorin, Dial Soap, Epsom Salt, Sea Salt are all good. Clean it, apply a healing/anti-bacterial agent, then cover it with a bandaid. The only time you should move it is when you are in the SHOWER, not the bath. Wear loose fitting shirts and low cut jeans to avoid getting it caught on anything.

I had mine pierced 9 years ago. I moved mine twice a day when not in the bath or shower so the skin wouldn't heal around the ring and stick. As I said, this was 9 years ago and it didn't rip out.
The redness doesn't sound too good.
I would suggest seeing a doctor incase an infection is about to start.
A friend of mine had hers pierced and she had a red lump inside the belly button behind the bar. She took the surgical steel bar out and replaced it with a 9ct gold one and it went away. I'm not saying this would work for everyone, but it could be a reaction to the material that the jewellery is made of.
Just for the record, I was told I could take my piercing jewellery out after 4 months. As soon as the 4 months was up, I changed the jewellery and had no problems.
Salt water is good to clean piercings as it is a natural substance and won't cause any reaction to the skin.

Depending on how new the piercing is redness will be common. If the piercing is a few months old or older, the redness could be from a number of things including poor quality jewelry, poor aftercare, too much movement in the area, etc.
Without more details I really cannot say for sure what's causing the problem, but as long as the area doesn't hurt, isn't bleeding or leaking greenish puss, you're probably fine. If you want, you can message me with more questions.

Hi there.
I have had my belly button pierced for approx 8 years. It normally takes up to two years for area to heal. Ideally stud/ring etc should not be changed until area has healed. Mine was always red and seemed to be oozing discharge from behind stud into belly button. I tried everything to clean away wot i thought was infection. Eventually saw a Dr who said that there was some skin tissue present that was the result of the piercing. This was zapped with liquid nitrogen (the stuff that Dr's use to freeze off skin tags moles and sun spots) and i have had no further problems.
so check it out. good luck.

OMG same thing happened to me! Don't move it around..that's the worst thing you can do. I've pierced mine 5 times, and everytime it will be stay looking good for a little while and then it will start to get infected. Use 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt and a cup of water and heat it in the microwave until it's warm. Then soak the area for a couple of minutes and then pat dry. If it gets to infected, you might wanna just take it out :(

it rather is contaminated! be careful not greater swimming and not greater choosing at it or it fairly is going to reject! Mine was like that and that i attempted sea salt soaks, spray, etc and not something helped. What I did to make it heal replaced into I took out the hoop (this could injury) and lined the full ring section in a layer of bacitracin. you may get that at objective. Then I placed it back in and left it on my own for like a week. Then I repeated this 2 greater circumstances and then it replaced into healed thoroughly even nevertheless it began to heal plenty interior the 1st week. desire this enables!

Don't move it! You could rip some of the tissue that's healing!Only move it underwater b/c it lubricates the skin andkeps it from ripping. I've heard of people using hydrogen peroxide to clean it but have never tried it except on my use. Don't use anything with alcohol in it. When I got mine they told me to wash it 3 times a say with Dial soap.

my belly button is the same way if it does not hurt it is not infected. it takes at least 6 months to fully heal so just give it time , if u have any questions go back to the place u got it perced and ask them.
