1st is the grave for most people. The grave is just where we sleep and wait for Christ's return. All the righteous go to heaven together at the 1st resurrection. All the unrighteous wait in the grave to receive punishment together at the 2nd resurrection.
The righteous will go over the records (sit in judgment) to understand that God did judge wisely and they will understand why friends/relatives are not in heaven. This is the 1,000 year period that Satan is in chains. (Satan's on earth with the people who died at the brightness of Christ's coming for the righteous - all people on earth are dead so he has nothing to do but contemplate the mess he made - chained by circumstances.)
After the 1,000 years Christ returns to earth with the holy city (New Jerusalem) & the righteous. Fire comes down from heaven to destroy the earth (2 Peter 3:12,13) and then Jesus creates the earth a-new.
At this point people will build houses, garden, visit other universes, etc. Nothing boring. No playing harps sitting on clouds for eternity, but life as it was meant to be.
I'm looking forward to it. Will I meet you there?
Edit: And we will be worshipping God on the 7th day Sabbath throughout eternity. (Isaiah 66:23)

What a great question!
Ok first you leave your body and have a panoramic life review on how you affected everything from their vantage and not your own. Then you will go into another demension temporarily. You'll go through the tunnel of beautiful lights, pop out into heaven, When you pass into a heaven realm someone will come to escort you in a very loving and caring way with great compassion. This will be a loved one or an angel, or maybe even your favorite dog from your childhood, or maybe all of them and more. They will be there for you and will bridge the transition of passage. You'll be greeted by them, and they will tell you it's time to come home wth them. After that no one can say what happens because if you go with them you can't come back to your body. However
enough souls have been to this threshold including Paul from the New Testement to state that heaven or the kingdom of heaven of very impressive in a technical and artisticwayand like Jesus said, has many mansions. Mansions may have related ideas such as prosperity, large family, beautiful architecture, abundance, technology, mastery, authority, perfect adaption and an equalibrium of ideas and manifestations. The analogy furthered in that each mansion is different and exclusive which corresponds to the archetype of the soul. The ancient axiom as Above so Below would suggest that heaven is an idealized environment formed in part by our own internal archetypes. I believe in heaven you are free to leave if you want to, and return to other worlds. In other realms people have been told the meaning of life , however each one of them could not remember it when they came back.

The greatest blessing of heaven will be the full revelation of the Living God. In heaven we will fully know, even as we are fully known. (I Corinthians 13:12 and I John 3:1-3)
But if you want to know what heaven is like, you must begin to experience the life of heaven in this life. Jesus said: "Truly, truly I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
He said further: "Truly, truly I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, "You must be born again." " (John 3:3,5-7)
Our experience of the Kingdom of Heaven must begin in this life, by yielding to the message of the Gospel, by repenting (turning away) from our sins and wrong attitude towards God, and by asking Him to save us by putting our faith in Jesus Christ and His atoning death for us on the cross. We must believe the testimony of God - that He sent His Son from heaven, that He lived a sinless life, that He died on a cross for our sins, and that He rose again from the dead. We must then call upon God in the name of Jesus Christ and ask Him to forgive us and make us a child of God, asking that He causes us to be born again and makes us a citizen of the Kingdom of God.
Paul, in writing to Christians said: "For He delivered us from the Domain of Darkness (Satan's Kingdom) and transferred us into the Kingdom of His Beloved Son." (Colossians 1:13)
This is the situation of all men - we are either in the Kingdom of God, or we are still under the power of Satan and slaves of sin. That is why we must call upon Jesus Christ to save us and to become our Lord and Savior. Afterwards it becomes our responsibility to begin to read His teaching and the teaching of His Apostles and obey Him. When we do this, we will gradually come into an awareness of this Kingdom of Heaven and the power of the Gospel. Paul said "For the Kingdom of God does not consist in mere words, but in power." (I Corinthians 4:20)
He said the Gospel was "the power of God, resulting in salvation to everyone who believes..." (Romans 1:16)
And: "The Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." (Romans 14:17)
In Hebrews we read of those who "have been enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come..." (Hebrews 6:4,5)
This is the normal and expected attainment of every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, to experience in this world a measure of the Kingdom of God. Only then can we have a strong confidence of coming into the fullness of this experience in the age, indeed in the ages to come.
Call upon the Lord to save you. He said "He that comes to Me I will certainly not cast out." (John 6:37)
He said: "Truly truly I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes in Him who sent Me (that is, the Father), has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed OUT OF DEATH INTO LIFE." (John 5:24)
Pray - ask Him to save you, and to make Himself known to you today, and you will begin to experience the Kingdom of God.
Peace to you!
