are they good dogs?

I have a Belgian Malinois and we do Schutzhund and we'll probably start agility soon. They are *NOT* good pets. Think about crossing a working lines German shepherd and a working lines border collie and that's what kind of drives they tend to have. If you want an excellent dog for Schutzhund, ring sport, agility, obedience, SAR, etc, a Mal can be great. If you want a casual dog, they will make you miserable as they need 1-2 hours of hard exercise a day to keep them happy and keep them from destroying your stuff. I have never seen my Mal truly tired (and he has his Sch AD title for running 12.5 miles next to me on a bike!). These are not dogs for novices or casual owners. It scares me that they are becoming more popular, honestly. They are not meant to be show dogs or lay around the house dogs. They are meant to be working dogs with some sort of function. Anything else and they are not a Malinois.

Hi...I own a 18 month old German bred GSD and he is the best dog I have ever owned!!! He is extremely intelligent, loyal, and wonderful with my kids, especially my youngest son who just turned 3 yrs old and has down syndrome. I couldn't ask for a better dog! but having this wonderful dog came at a price....I spent hours each and every day training him and socializing him. but I have to say every second I spent on him was well worth it. he can be trusted and when I ask him to do something it is done. I also like to call him my "velcro-dog" since GSD's are very loyal and love to be around their owners all the time.

I don't have one, but the man who runs our barn does. He has taken the time to train her extremely well (he used to train police dogs) and she's an amazing animal. They are good dogs, but make sure they have a purpose. His dog guards the barn and follows him around when he takes care of the horses, and he makes sure to keep her occupied.

I have 2 shepherds.Both male and they're amazing dogs.
They're smart and have a great sense of humor.They play tricks on each other all the time and me too occasionally.
