In the book of revelation who do you believe will be the two witnesses sent during the tribulation and why do you believe this. Its not said but my belief is Moses and Elijah...what do you think and why?
Revelation 11:3-4
3And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
4These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

THere is also a good argument for elijah and enoch...although the plagues described point at moses. Also remember who was with Christ on the mount...moses and elijah. The truth is that no matter is they are Bob and Steve the result is the same...but I thought it would be refreshing for Christians to be able to actually discuss a Bible topic rather than all the other garbage on here.

Good point...but remember that their are nuggets throughout the bible that DO answer questions we have. God's word is perfect and I believe the gaps or the questions are not only there on purpose but to force us to study and encounter Christ through the word....we are saved through faith but faith without works is dead. Growing in Christ is done through study...this question was not meant to bring disobedience but to get Christians in the word where God wants them. Faith is accepting that what the words says is true..the work is studying the word and finding those nuggets that God has placed to prove its true...

I believe it is Moses and Elijah as well. My reasoning is based on
1) the miracles they perform are similar to when they were here on earth in the past.
2) They would be the best witness to Israel, Moses representing the Law, Elijah representing the prophets.
3) Neither saw decay, Moses was buried by God, and denied corruption by Satan (ref. Jude 9) Elijah rose to God in a chariot of fire. (ref 2 Ki 2:11)
4) Both appeared with Jesus on the mount, perhaps discussing "the plan".
5) Elijah was prophesied to return in Micah 4:5

They could be Enoch and Elijah. ( Though Enoch was a Gentile, and he did not die )
The gospel of Nicodemus contains the following statement: " I am Enoch who pleased God, and was translated by him. And this is Elijah the Tishbite. We are aso to live to the end of the age: but then we are about to be sent by God to resist Antichrist, and be slain by him, and to rise after three days, and to be caught up in the clouds to meet Lord."
It is propably very smart thing not to try to identify them. Some people believe these are Moses and Elijah.
Scripture has always required 2 witnesses to bear testimony to anything before it was heard. Therefore, we can say that these witnesses are human beings and that there are 2 of them. These are the 2 things for sure.
It is almost certain that Elijah is one of them, since it was predicted that he would return ( Mal 4:5 and also Matt 17:11 ).
I could also suggest that John the Baptist is the 2nd witness. He was the forerunner of Christ at His first coming. He was similar to Elijah in manner and the message. Both of those guys were in the center of what it was like to oppose the forces of darkness and to stand alone for God against impossible odds. John the Baptist would be the witness for the New Testament and Elijah for the Old Testament.
"Clothed in sackcloth " is the garb better suited to the period of the Law than of grace. It is becoming both to Elijah and to the John the Baptist.
These 2 witnesses are lights before the powers of darkness. These men are accorded miraculous power to bring fire down from heaven - they are filled with the Holy Spirit. Here again, the suggestion is strongly in favor of Elijah ( 1 Kings 18:38, 2 Kings 1:10 ). Also John made anouncement about the One baptizing with fire ( Matt 3:11).
These 2 witnesses are immortal and immune to all attacks until their mission is completed. And these 2 witnesses are granted unlimited authority. They control rainfall on the earth, and they are able to turn the water into blood. This sure reminds us both about Moses and Elijah...but is just a speculation.

Excellant Question:: I thought of Elijah & Moses, because of the
Appearing with Jesus before. His Death, and the calling down of Plagues, and Drought. But a Good Friend believes it will be Enoch
and Elijah ,because of Enoch before the Flood was caught up to Heaven and never Died,Elijah was caught up in Heavenly Chairet
and He never Died.I think their tour of Duty is last half of Tribulation,Then they are Killed & Reserected 3 days later.

Witnesses representing the Law and the Prophets would certainly make sense. But as John the Baptist was called elijah by Jesus, I suspect the two witnesses will be ordinary people operating in the spirits of these two partiarchs.

We don't know who they will be. We won't until they come. It isn't said for a reason. Until they come, we won't know. And when they do, people will recognize them for who they are. I think the point in not telling is so when they come, we will know them and know they are from God. If he told us to look for certain people, then everyone would be seeing them all the time. This way, we go on faith until we see them.

I think Moses and Elijah, everyone assumes it will be them. I really don't know, I was thinking maybe Paul, and John the Baptist, he was Jesus' cousin by the way.

How about Ephraim and Judah? (Jews and Gentiles(Christians)) Those that have kept the law, and those preaching the Savior. I actually don't really know, but it would be cool if it was huh? Just a big multitude of people?? It sparks thought...

I am convinced one will be Elijah. (Malachi 4:5)
The other will be either Moses or Enoch in my opinion.
