Okay, I'll try to adumbrate, bear with me friend... there are SOME theoretical continuities between vedic Brahmanism and Buddhism, that Buddha tried to return to vedic ideals but those are usually prejudicial (not in a racist sense, for those common readers who might misinterpret) from a Hindu perspective.

The states of meditative absorption and consciousnesses are similar, but Buddhism strays FAR from the Vedic scriptures, rejecting the Veda, just like the Jains do. The Buddha started off sampling ascetism and renunciation, but HERE is where the two diverge... the Buddha found a MIDDLE way... not ascetism nor renunciation in a nihilistic sense, etc. So I'd say there are share ROOTS but beyond the roots they don't compare. The Buddha rejected so much of the roots it's just far too much to pop in here.

Does this help? It's really hard to bust down the differences in such a small spot. I really think you'd enjoy comparitive studies in Hinduism and Buddhism at their juncture and where they diverged. There are lots of good books out there that discuss these and toss the theories around and the best, believe it or not are from the "studies in Hinduism" pov, linking THAT with what Buddhism actually teaches.
