Some dogs just like dirt. But it's possible there's some kind of diet deficiency, and he's trying to get some kind of nutrients. He definitely should not be eating Miracle Grow!

Some dogs just like the taste of it. The pellets could either be fertilizer or foam pellets.Either way, it can be very dangerous.Try putting some river rocks on top of the soil. This will discourage him from bothering it again.

There could be ground up bones or dried blood in the dirt as a fertalizer?
Or, he may need vitamins. My dog used to eat dirt so we got him this vitamin powder stuff that we put in his food and he stoped eating the dirt.

if you find the answer to this tell me please
i have a rottweiler who thinks she is a earthworm
she eats mud, dirt, mulch, gravel and rocks
i had her checked out at the vet, no nurtitional problems just neurosis, she even ate a couple marbles,
try to keep her away from the stuff, gravel or stones might help you
they were counterproductive for us, but now whenever she poops in a really hard rain we find interesting stone-hengesque piles in our yard
good luck

My dog did that and my vet said it was a form of pica (not getting enough vitamins/minerals). Humans can have it too. I put a tablespoon of plain yogurt in with her food. She has stopped eating dirt.

dogs get vitamens from eating grass and other green things. If there is nothing green around and the merical grow gives off the smell of the vitamens then he will eat that instead.

Well, obviously it must taste better than the dog food you're feeding him. I'd go with the eukanuba but pedigree is ok too.
