I can take tylenol pm/extra strenght, but within a day or two, i have a really bad migrain. I have to resort to advil or alieve. For some reason those two help a LOT better than tylenol. Why is this??

Tylenol PM has dyphenhydramine (the generic of Benedryl) which is mainly for allergies and also can make you sleepy. I have found Tylenol alone to be totally useless but when I take it with aspirin or another NSAID it seems to make them work better. If you want to take Tylenol, take the plain kind, not the PM variaty and see if it still gives you a headache. If so, you may be having a rare reaction to the acetamenaphen.

Example: advil at 6 AM, 12 noon, 6 PM, and 12 midnight; tylenol at 9 AM, 3 PM, 9 PM, 3 AM 3] use ice in plastic bag, wrapped in dishtowel to jaw[s] The first time they are put on, and tightened, is the worst - may hurt several days. Other times, only 1 - 2 days of pain. Make sure you have mom or dad put some in school clinic for you after school starts, before you need it!

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

If you would have told why you take that drug it was better to give you the advice on it also; it must be a chronic disease i think.
You should avoid all drugs for all pains. Pain killers never kill the pain but the patient. It's a vicious circle to take a drug for side effects of a drug.
Acupuncture is the only treatment for all pains, next is south pole of a strong magnet.
