I think the quote might be slightly wrong, otherwise I am sure you could find it on the net.

As to the quote, I think it is saying that you don't have to be in control of everything. Often, it will be a man or women of genius who plants the seed (of an idea), but then we may need to let others apply or nurture those ideas to bring them to fruition. Even the great scientist ,Isaac Newton, remarked that: 'If I have seen a little further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants'.

I would guess it was the foreman at the gardener company when asked by the new kid if he could be the gardener that day. What do you think? In other words, you have to use the shovel before you can run the lawn mower.

Are you sure that is the exact quote? I can't find anything. The only thing that i am thinking is that it is a parable from the bible...
