he had a really bad cold virus that affected his throat pretty bad, it wasn't strep, but he lost his voice for a couple of weeks and his lymph glands are still swollen (left more than right), he hasn't had any fevers for at least 3 weeks, but his voice still doesn't sound quite the same...I don't know if the two have anything to do with eachother, but a couple of days ago he got a very bad bloody nose (left side again)...can these two things have anything to do w/ eachother? I am finally going to be able to have him seen by a doc on Thursday...can these be symptoms of something serious, and should I ask any specific questions about these things? Serious answers only, and before people start saying I should have had him seen a long time ago...we are on a military base in a foreign country and they weren't seeing any patients until now...any suggestions/advice would be great! Thanks!!!

Oh, one more thing...he isn't acting like he doesn't feel good...he can be a little more grumpy than usual occasionally, but thats it!

Okay...we HAVE been to the ER...they are the ones who determined he didn't have strep. I have been in contact on the phone w/ a nurse, which is why we have an appointment on thursday...all of this is besides the point...all I am asking is if someone knows if these symptoms could be something serious and if there are specific questions I should ask...so if you are just trying to earn a point or two by telling me my son needs to see a doctor, THANK YOU, BUT I ALREADY KNOW THAT!!! For those of you with helpful advice, I am grateful that you took the time to answer...THANKS!!!

I know a girl who had chicken pox that became a viral disease; she almost died of it. I don't want to scare you, but you should take your son to a doctor as soon as you can. I was just searching through Google and found that a bleeding nose could be caused by high blood pressure. Swollen lymph nodes are generally caused by a buildup of lymphocytes in preparation for fighting an infection/antigen; if you son has had this for a month, his immune system could be weak. Check out this link:

You know more about the symptoms than me, so you might be able to get something out of that.

Hopefully someone more qualified than myself can tell you more about it... hope your son gets better soon.

with the lymph glands and cold viruses - the lymph glands can be swollen for quite a while, there could still be bacteria working their way out and the lymph glands would be responding to that. if the doctor puts him on antibiotics and the lymph gland doesnt go down, then id do follow-up (as the antibiotics should really help out with the work that his lymph gland is likely trying to do)

as far as the bloody nose goes, i would mention it if it makes you feel more comfortable, but id also like to ask where you live. I live in chicago, and sometimes nosebleeds happen in winter months (at least to me) as a result of dry weather. try putting some humidifiers on around the house if you have any, that might help him some (if thats what it is).

I hate to think that you do not have access to an emergency room. All those symptoms for that long could be serious. Left side more swollen, left side nose bleed. ?? If you get a left ear bleed along with it go into the commander's office with your child and tell them you need a doctor. That would show probable brain swelling, and that can be fatal. Good Luck, sorry you don't have better facilities for your child.
